Here's a G80-2550, 15€ BIN. So Cherry actually made terminal boards too, didn't know that.

Might not be a terminal keyboard, might just be for 3270 emulation software (like the IBM Terminal Emulator keyboards that people always confuse for being terminal keyboards).

Since it's PS/2 I strongly suspect it's for emulation software and is therefore a normal keyboard with normal scancodes...

This is what I get for not reading.

Yes, then, it's not a terminal keyboard...it's for 3270 emulation software running under Windows on a real computer.

Terminal layout, emulation features.

That board layout is getting to be common enough to (almost) deserve its own wiki page here.

Not me. And my understanding is this would be a violation of geekhack etiquette, so I rather hope it's none of us. If it's any consolation, the photo clearly showed the print on the Cherry key was all rubbed off.

Btw, you're cheap. ;P

Yes, I saw the Cherry key and planned on asking you to swop :-)

But why am I cheap? I'd rather say, I was too slow to bid more. 5 or 10 EUR more wouldn't have hurt me, but I suppose some kind of bidding agent was used since the bid came in very late and I had no change to bid again.

I'm starting to want a G80-2100...

Seller is teasing though...no worldwide shipping, plus even if they did it would cost like $9001.

This time, I'll try a bidding agent or something. Not going into the same trap three times in a row. BTW, I'm not planning on removing the cherry key anymore, I will keep the board intact.

And naturally, since it's a G80-2100 and not the nonprogrammable G80-2550, this pops up.

Indeed.  I'd have no problem channeling my inner webwit to get one though.  So many SPOS's around in the US+Canada listings that my G81-3000 might appear to be "rare".

Can one add "no brokers" to the region limit and have it stick on ebay?

I have always liked those Ambra 'boards. The styling and font of the legends gives them a "softer" appearance than the standard Ms.

Is this a regular model M on the inside? Missing keycaps could turn out to be a problem tho... I mean, where do you get a replacement?

It is a regular Model M on the inside, but you would be better off buying a complete 'board (unless you already have another Ambra).  Replacement caps would be hard to come by.  AFAIK, Unicomp doesn't print legends like those on their replacement parts.

Mailed the Ambra seller and explained her the concept of two part keys. She already replied she thinks the missing caps should still be somewhere, and she's turning her house upside down now. =)

With a complete set of caps, the board will probably become too expensive for me, but hopefully this beauty will be saved for posterity.

IIRC mine were Euro 1,- each, or near.

I should get it for the case, considering one of mine is dishwasher-warped. But no.

If you get it, don't put the case into the dishwasher. :-)

You may find out once you get one. ;)

Don't worry, I'm not going to bid much more than what I paid for mine. So you wouldn't have lost that cancelled auction to me, and you'll most likely win the current one. Sadly we can't know if there will be another one anytime soon.

Since I read all your comments with the Aardvark's German dub voice (which you certainly know) in my head,  it's just fun teasing you. ;P

I will not have internet access when this auction finishes, so I'll bid some insane amount and see if I am finally successful.

The german dub voice is sooo great. The original voices of aardvark and ant are pretty boring in comparison.

As much as I too would like to get one of those G80-2100 thingies...I feel the best most likely scenario is the controller build and replace...that way it can be customized to taste and desire... and almost any 122key M terminal board can be pressed into service (..obviously).

Oh? I thought it was said somewhere that they by default have blues...

I'll look back through this thread and the last one that mentioned them. There was another part number of the same layout; maybe that's the one which had blues.

Perhaps so...

I did find a reference to G80-2550, no luck finding reference to switch types. I guess the remainder of the model number is needed to be certain.

In any event, the 2100 I'd want would have blues and only blues.

I'm pretty sure all Cherry MX boards that weren't built on custom order come with blacks. Only exception would be the basic  G80-1000/3000. When they're in doubt what the user might like, they go with the switch everybody dislikes equally.

That makes substantially more sense, thanks.

Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

Of course, the important question is if any of our DE friends are willing to re-ship any of these decks to us poor Amis, who are dependent upon either the (tiny) trickle of clicky Cherry boards that make it over here, or upon the kindness of strangers....
