Porcelain or glass commuter coffee and tea flasks
« on: Fri, 21 November 2014, 22:21:05 »
My tea flask got knocked over by the cat and immediately shattered on the granite counter top so I'm looking to replace it.
http://camellia-sinensis.com/en/teaware/bouteille-a-the-2049 - this is what I had, and loved it to death except for the fact it was so fragile and only held 350mL

I'm looking to get a new one, double-walled for sure, and really want porcelain or glass inside with something less brittle as the outer wall. All I can find immeiatly are:
http://camellia-sinensis.com/en/teaware/bouteille-a-the-en-bambou-porcelaine - same brand I know has great quality, but it has even less capacity than the glass one

http://www.amazon.com/Teavana-Morgan-Stainless-Steel-Tumbler/dp/B00NG80LUC/ref=sr_1_5?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1416629943&sr=1-5- no reviews and I am not even sure it has a locking top

And all the double-walled glass tumblers are glass in glass :(
Does anyone have any good suggestions?

I don't have these, but I've had them on my amazon wish and plan on trying them out someday. Glass inner walls for clean taste and polycarbonate outer walls for added survivability. Pretty expensive though.

They are all metal though, I don't like the way coffee tastes drinking out of metal. Glass and ceramic soften the flavor profile.

I have 2 of them. One came with a non-stick finish on the inside and the other "slick steel" which looks like a glass or epoxy coating.

It looks like a Teflon coating.

Is that dishwasher safe? All my teflon pans lost their slippy after a few runs through the washer.

I only wash mine out with hot water (typically with the hot water I'm using to make my coffee). And I've only really scrubbed it out once since I got it (about a year in with this one) with a wash cloth to get rid of the "seasoning"

I'm pretty sure most non stick stuff isn't really dishwasher safe if you do a heated dry.

Alright, I'm looking at this Zoji: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005PO9T44/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3NMU5TUP6GJ2Z&coliid=I2ODHRYQ4FKN5S&psc=1
*plus that elephant is super cute  :-*

I'm thinking of getting that and the Camellia Senesis one and then decide which I like better.

I'm thinking of getting that and the Camellia Senesis one and then decide which I like better.

I have two of that exact same model. One for coffee, one for water. Coffee stays hot from 8am when I brew it until around 5pm if I haven't drank it yet. And I mean HOT. Like I let it cool down a bit before putting the lid on and it's still pretty much the same temp when I finish it.

The water one, if I put ice in it Friday morning and don't drink anything out of it, I'll easily still have ice in it on Sunday.

And they are TOUGH. I've dropped mine countless times (from about 3 feet since the water bottle holders on my backpack aren't tall enough), they have tons of scuffs and the bottom is so dented that it wobbles when I set them down. Still the same heat/cold performance. The only reason I'd stop using them is to upgrade to the 20oz ones they just came out with.

And they are fairly easy to clean. I've heard the contagos can be a bit hard to clean. The lid fully comes apart and I just soak mine in hot water for a minute or two and wipe them down. The only part that is hard to get to is the little air hole thingy and for that I just use q-tips.

Alright, you've sold me on it. I'm gonna pick one up next week, thanks for the input  :thumb:
Probably would pick up the 20oz if it came in better colors.
