What video playback software do ya'll use..
« on: Mon, 22 December 2014, 20:42:37 »
I've been hardcore mpchc since madvr..

Before Madvr,  I was all into VLC,

and before VLC,  I was on that zoomplayer, because my cpu wasn't fast enough for 1080p, so I used my gpu for dxva..

It has more to do with ****ty digital copies then the playback software. I can download a movie at 1080p and my 720p dvd version will always look better. No gross pixalation or shadow artifacts like you get from digital copies. Also, having a decent monitor helps.

Nope, but the next best is roughly the same.

No SSD.

PotPlayer.

Before that KMPlayer.

Before that GOMPlayer.

Before that a variety of players, including VLC.

VLC because it plays everything I throw at it, and I've never felt the need to look for anything better.

Mplayer when on Linux.

Check out mpv.

It is mplayer2 but coded better, with an optional HUD, ipc commands (nice for scripting), and support for streaming videos (via youtube-dl).

But funny thing, even watching Game of Thrones HD in iTunes on my PC stutters once a while (yes, I have SSD but Core 2 Quad and GTX something card)

Well.. in terms of the best-playback quality (visually).. most enthusiast concur that MPC-HC + Madvr scalar does the best job..

VLC and MPC-HC by themselves alone will play all formats, but Madvr scalar is what makes sure your file is projected on your monitor Correctly..

madvr only works on MPC-hc

I was tempted to try Miro a few times, but VLC continues to suffice.

Um.. well.. there's a very slight learning curve, but almost always, the largest hurdle is the diversity of hardware that people have..

but... overall....  anything with 700+ gpubench score will work fine..  Preferably something with 3000 +  will be much better..

? I thought it being only a renderer it was compatible with any 32bit player.

PotPlayer. Handles everything, loads of options, nice default UI, and has video/frame/audio capture built-in. AviSynth scripts are also supported, amongst other advanced options.
