When you know you have a problem
« on: Tue, 20 January 2015, 14:33:30 »
Well it's started.  Since there are obviously not enough hours in a day I have resorted to vintage keyboard shopping in my dreams.  I had a very long dream about finding a stash of old vintage apple keyboards with rare switch types.  As it was a dream they were models/switches that don't exist in real life but it was a lot of fun.  The only bad part is the dream ended before I could buy them, and I didn't get much time to try them out :(.

The way things are going, in 10-20 years I will probably have wrote a book entitled "How Keyboards Ruined My Life".

I doubt this will happen..

Keyboards are good. We at GH all agree on that. But it is not something like heroin or cocaine such that its able to initiate a euphoria so consuming that it over shadows all other avenues of pleasure in ones life.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

If your keyboard addiction becomes worse than a drug addiction, then it's a problem...

Clearly I did no research prior to posting, a total yolo moment :D

@Computer-Lab I totally get what you are saying.  Develop a very bad drug addiction to make my keyboard addiction look like a non-issue.  Brilliant.

if you are gay, THEN you combine the useful and the pleasant.

There's a thread for keyboard-related dreams.

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=52781.0
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
