F*** This Tablet.
« on: Wed, 21 January 2015, 21:42:25 »
I just got an Asus Memo Pad 7 176cx, and holy hell I hate this thing.  All I want to do is uninstall the damn Facebook and Google apps that came with it and other crap I don't need.  But no, those are SYSTEM files and I can't do anything with them.

I looked up rooting the device, and apparently there is no tool that can root this device.  On top of that, it keeps telling me there is an update available for the device, but there is no friggin' option anywhere to update anything?  I went to the website and downloaded a firmware zip, but I open it up and all I get is a bunch of random files with no installer or anything?  What the hell am I doing?

Yeah, it's the 176c version, so there's no way to root it currently.  I even asked at oneclickroot.com and they asked me to leave my email just in case a fix becomes available in the future.

I'm just used to having control over my devices instead of being forced to have crap running.

Hrmm, seems to be instructions for the c or cx.

In the meantime, how did you manage to get your PC to recognize it?

Sorry to hear about your troubles! I have to admit rooting is the first thing I check when I'm looking at devices, if I can't root it then it's a no go for me.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Yeah, I was thinking, "Well at least if I go with Android instead of Apple, I'll have control over my stuff."

I've been searching for very basic things like an internet radio widget where I can just add my own streams (like back when I had the Nokia 770 Maemo tablet), but all I can find is stuff with thousands of preloaded music stations and not the stuff I want.  I don't want Pandora.  I just want a basic shell where I can put the stream file and listen to it.

web browsers will be able to do that, just paste the URL for the radio.

AFAIK, VLC can do that. Best media player for Android, IMO.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

i'd say MX Player's better but to each their own.
