Man you could at least TRY and give us some idea regarding what the **** you're talking about.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Nope only the 840 EVO has the TLC nand. They dumped it totally and moved onto a different approach with the v-nand in the 850 series. Lucky for everyone besides the people that bought 840 evo TLC didn't catch on at all so it won't be a problem in the larger sense.
3D nand takes the place of what they were attempting to accomplish with TLC but without the static data issues.

840 pro are not affected..

Only 840 (original) and 840 (EVO)  are affected.

Any drive that use SAMSUNG 19nm TLC nand.

Unaffected drives: vvv

840 Pro is MLC

850 Evo is 40nm TLC V-nand  <supposed to be unaffected, but the public is ruffled>

850 Pro is 40nm MLC  V-nand

Technically the fix "does work" but it's really a firmware patch over a hardware problem which can't be fixed.  The shortcoming here is that the performance remains "inconsistent"..

So the 840 Evos will have ups-and-downs "forever"

Pretty sure it was the longer warranty that caught my eye

Here's the string of excuses, I've told myself 15 different times, to accumulate my 30+ SSDs thus far..

Acheemm..'''  repeat after me....

"  I could always put it in an older computer "

Eventually, All your older computers will have SSDs..  Then we switch to...

"  My Old computer could use an SSD update "..

Eventually, All you older computers will have Upgraded SSDs..  THEN we switch to..

"  Well, SSDs will never wear out, so it's not like they're perishable, they'll always be good "

Eventually, You get more SSDs than you got Sata ports..  THEN we switch to..

"  Guess I need some raid card to get all these SSDs going at max performance. "

Magic, Now you got more ports than SSDs again..

Repeat step 1..

DO NOT buy m0ar ssds, unless you really need them..  or performance of New SSD exceeds OLD by 30% or more.

I actually like this logic,

I just used the simple "dam my 256gb is not cutting it, I may need more space" excuse. But then that had to be weighed against the cost and I decided I like the money more. But then again.... it is getting cramped on this SSD

I think 256 is fine for me..  Not back in the day when I was hardcore g4m3r..  but I can comfortably use 256 Modern day.

Of course impulse buys happen,  and you end up buying 1TB ssds anyway..

Any direction which software test I should use?

download.. HD tach,  it's OLD.. but it works..

you need to run it under compatibility mode Windows XP SP3,  if you're running windows 7/8

Select your drive,  and select Long test..  Let it run undisturbed if the SSD is your main drive.

But,, you are ABSOLUTELY affected.. EVERYONE is..  there are no exceptions..

If you are hoping that you may "NOT" be affected..  Then don't bother testing.. You're affected..

IF you want to look at an interesting turn in SSD history..  Then run HD tach, for the funsies.

But below shows the problem,  You see those Dips all the way down to even below 50MB/s..  Those are the Older files, where the cell-charge has degraded..

Just go with pci-e nvme ssd 240GB-512GB and be set for the forseeable future. 1500mb/s  Though, to be totally honest the perceptible performance difference in real world is almost non existent. It is much less bad if something ends up paging... but that almost never happens since I have 16Gb of memory.
Now my old sata III Seagate 600 240GB has been relegated to a secondary disk, for my music, documents, etc... with some extra space left if I 'need' to for some reason install multiple games the size of GTA V at the same time.

What I am still waiting for is consumer tier 4TB+ SSD with sane price tags (sane as something approaching what same size HDD cost now) so I can actually get rid of all the HDDs.

There are a few companies that make pci-e ram disk cards like ALLONE, but they are still pretty expensive for what you get really. They tend to target enterprise, so they charge high.
What will be more interesting are the hybrid nvram DDR4/storage modules that are coming, that can switch between use of memory or storage. Rumors that they might be ready around Skylake E release.

are you talking about the dimm sticks?

those are SICKKKK for sff systems.  you wouldn't rely on them 100% for storage, but just having more capacity without additional case size/random 'stick **** with tape here'

I think the point is you can rely on them for storage. Considering they will be available in module sizes up to 512GB, and most boards have 4x DIMM slots... that is a LOT of storage/memory. Storage and memory become the same thing, as it will be non volatile like nand but the speeds of ram. The only real problem is it will likely be REALLY expensive on release.

You could also use this benchmark that is specifically testing "for an age/speed correlation by reading files already on the SSD, and then display its findings graphically."

It's called SSD Read Speed Tester.

There is this thread @ OCN with everything you need : download link + positive/negative results sorted by SSD brand & model.

I've been holding off on the 850 Evo deals because of the TLC debacle..

I know it's probably not an issue at all since they switched to 40nm TLC from 19nm in the 840evo..

but This feels a bit like OCZ vertex 2/3/4... all over again... I have SSDPTSD

Edit: I just did a quick google search appears that was around Feb, one article I looked at said Samsung pulled the firmware from being downloadable so it could be fixed. I am assuming they had fixed it by now.

Edit, Edit: Now I am going to wait out until at least the end of the year for new SSD hardware.

Well,  here it's $180 for 512gb on the Evo  $230 for the Pr0

So if you think about it, it costs twice as much Nand to make a PRO,  since the price isn't double,  TECHNICALLY the Pro is a good deal given that spread..

However,  I don't think you need to abandon your 840 evos if they're just storing games..

Price of the evo really is interesting where I live

Well,  here it's $180 for 512gb on the Evo  $230 for the Pr0

So if you think about it, it costs twice as much Nand to make a PRO,  since the price isn't double,  TECHNICALLY the Pro is a good deal given that spread..

However,  I don't think you need to abandon your 840 evos if they're just storing games..

The one that I'm gonna replace is the raid 0 one, I've been thinking to get a new (more space) SSD to replace the raid 0
This is due to not only the OS but I've a couple of customised software for work installed in the OS drive which I'm not willing to risk in any mean necessary

I might go with the pro and call it a day, but I dont think I'm gonna discard my 500GB evo,
as long as I can get it "patched" I'll be happy since I would only store games in it

in the other hand, I'm not ready to spend more for my pc at this point :(
If isn't because of those tailored software I wont

You gotta run the Comprehensive recovery thing first..

"performance restoration"

It will rewrite all the files..

Do you mean perfomance optimization?
I cant run that since I'm already using windows 8 which already run TRIM..

Edit: I'll try the advance mode which let me run it nonetheless, I'll see how it goes...

honestly I find it pleasuring having issues in my rig, I thought my rig was a well thought all good products when I built it a year ago
now I've something to be bothered yet it feels good after a year with no issue what so ever, even everything oc'ed well!

Don't buy more Samsung. Buy something with Toshiba toggle nand inside. There are lots of good SSD with that, and usually cheaper than Samsungs too.

The 3d Nand doesn't really do anything for the "consumer",   it only benefits samsung really..
