D&D thread (aka tabletop RPGs general)
« on: Thu, 08 October 2015, 13:10:13 »
this is the thread where we talk about D&D

discussion of other tabletop rpgs is allowed, of course, they're all really fun

i've been playing a lot more D&D now that i'm at college and there's like-minded people to play with

i have 2 (5e) campaigns going currently

in one of them, i am a goliath life domain cleric named Scot, who likes to make jingly noises with the bells on his armor, but hates the water.

and in the other i am a half orc champion fighter named Jurul (like Ja Rule), who has a hammer that does 2d6 bludgeioning as well as 2d6 lightning damage.

maybe we could get a GH roll20 game going, i dunno

also post pics of dice

Here are the dice I have had since 1982. The cream color one is one of the cheapies included with the original Basic Dungeons and Dragons set from 1981. I got the others quickly when the basic ones started to self destruct.  The bag is from an old TI calculator. My dad donated it to the cause when he tripped on a loose die in the kitchen. I had a d4 at one time, but it sucks to roll, so I prefer the d8 mod 2 method.

Are those gamescience d20s? I've heard they're pretty good.

I've never thought of d8 mod2, if I need to roll any d4s tonight I'll try it. I'll probably cast a healing word or two, we're about to fight "some sort of demon"

I like my chessex d4s though. Wiz's kinda suck, but they do when I pull them out of my bag. I'll take a picture of it when it's nicer in my room, there's trash everywhere right now.

No clue...what ever the hobby shop had in 1982. Before the internet, we took what we could get.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I'd DM a 5e campaign

I've been looking for more people to play with, we could play over roll20

it's been decided (by me) that there WILL be a GH D&D campaign

it will be 5e, i will be the DM

i'd like 4 PCs, 6 at most, if people REALLY want i could do 7

i will not restrict classes and i will help you if you've never played before

i might change your attributes if i think they're too good/bad

we will play using https://roll20.net/

currently the group looks like:

DM: Tacticalstache (me)
PC 1: melvang
PC 2: Nubbinator
PC 3 - 6: undecided

if you want to play PM me with: what day/time (in EST) works best for you, i'd like to do tuesday or friday (maybe at like 8:30 EST) because of how my schedule works. THURSDAYS AND SUNDAYS ARE NO GOOD

i'll go through them (to decide who wants to play) on SUNDAY OR MONDAY MORNING with a bias to new players

i'll be upfront, my dm experience is fairly limited, and i've never used roll20 (to dm, i've played using it) before

i think i've seen enough critical role/rollplay to kinda know what to do

we will roll characters together at the first session

don't feel obligated to buy anything, you don't even need dice and you can download the player handbook from the internet in ways that are mostly legal (plus it's like $30 on amazon)

PM me any questions or ask in the thread

I haven't done 5e before, but I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out.  8:30EST will be tough for me since I get off of work at 5PM PST.  I work M-F 8AM-5PM PST.

we can move it to 9 if you need

i was initially thinking 7 but then i realized not everyone lives on the east coast and i like to sleep much earlier than everyone else

Last time I played was 1987 when it as just AD&D, so I'm not even sure what 5e is, but I may be interested. How often/how long/what days were you planning on?

But then a few years after 1987  you went to college, and had sex,  and decided,  OK,  this IS better than D&D,  I should probably go get a job so I can afford a female for regular intervals..

5e is 5th edition.

I was thinking once a week, either Tuesday or Friday at 9 PM EST.

Well, maybe....actually, I went to a tech school where the male to female ratio was 5:1 and those females where engineer stock, so it wasn't exactly Animal House or even Revenge of the Nerds. It was more like a KeyCon.

I've wanted to try out D&D but when my wife and I were getting organized someone kept inviting people that we didn't get along with/*******s and we never have been able to play since then.

Though I am getting into MTG and I would love a GH d20! IC thread? :P

I forgot how to DnD, but still had fun.  Dwarven Barbarian should be interesting.  I need to PM some details about that that should flesh it out some more.  Fezzik is a great first name, but I need a better last name to fit the backstory I'll be working on.

Also, now I am the proud owner of two orc canines.

THE CAST:

TS as "The DM"

Sifo as Soveliss Aerasumé, half-elf sorcerer
Melvang as Hacknar, silver dragonborn rogue
FrostyToast as Eldarim Silverhand, wood elf monk
CPTbadass as Travelocity (AKA "Lil T"), gnome fighter
engicoder as Mongo, half-orc cleric
and Nubbinator as Fezzik (I know you had a last name, I forgot to write it down, PM it to me), gnome barbarian

Tonight, the party found themselves in the Bitter Crane Inn, a reasonable establishment in the mountain-base town of Cheol, in the country of Drone. Soveliss spoke with the Innkeeper, a dwarf named Tom Snowforge, about the recent yeti problem in Cheol's farms. An orc-looking man (introducing himself as Jurul of Yeol, a town on the other side of the mountain) barged into the inn looking for a fight, and Hacknar, being Hacknar, obliged him. Little did Jurul know, everyone else in the tavern also obliged. The fight ended quickly, after Jurul's head was caved in by Mongo's trusty warhammer.

Off of the body, the party looted an Amulet of Locating (Once attuned, the bearer ALWAYS knows where it is), a few gold, and a healing potion. Fezzik looted a few of the half-orc's teeth for himself.

I'd say that was pretty crazy, but a lot of fun. The party seems to like to beat the **** out of things, except the monk, who gave the half orc his spear. He got it back pretty quickly, though.

I'll make a better plan for next week, don't worry.

I'm thinking my half orc could throw your Gnome and you could Flail-Fly into battle. (Queue: Ride of the Valkyries)

I play 40k well more played as I haven't played in a while now I mainly play tau :) just thought I would share since everyone else is on about D&D at the moment, I find the best part of it actually just painting the models though although getting to to utterly wreak a bunch of Smurfs with a riptide is fun ^^
