The Zone of Interest

Recommended.

Its one of my favourite subjects (WWII). Well made, they used very fragile way to show the situation from different perspective. It was disturbing, but I like this way of showing a brutal truth.
I've been in Oswiecim many times, always incredibly moved by that place, this movie brought all the memories.
Like one of best songs of Metallica - sad but true.

she said it was terrible after the second half because it got too philosophical. i suppose i expected that reaction. when that scene happened she looked at me and whispered what the ****

still my favorite movie ever tho, and now I'm gonna be thinking about it for another month. could write a novel of Harry Potter thickness about my thoughts on this film. so many little details and endless rabbit holes with the symbolism

3 Body Problem (2024), Netflix

This needs to stop.  It's ridiculous that they seemly only cast unaesthetic asian females in Hollywood. Seriously, they couldn't find just 3 attractive women for a TV series that ran 20 $Million dollars an episode.

One must reason that the CGI was just too expensive and they could only afford to hire aunties with what's left.

3 aunties problem

Tp4 tried to get into it, but the chicken nugget didn't get any action, it was mostly about the humans.

LOL, don't know NT, if they had to, they can explain it a billion different ways. For example, the Minbari brain might be so calorically charged, they require extra cooling to dissipate the processor heat.

Anyone else watch Colin from Accounts? That was a fun one, looking forward to the second season.

We also saw Poor Things, which was—well, it was something. Definitely understand why it won awards, but damn was it a weird film.

"Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie", on the other hand, gets full thumbs up without hesitation. What an uplifting doc.

Tp4 did not like poor things. It's a lazy shock-trope directors with superficial imagination like to vomit every couple of years. It really resembles nothing more than costly splatter art.

The entirety of what humans have or can say in 2 hours has been said. So, we're left with this.

We understand the plot, we understand societal allegories, it's not that deep, and the acting was ****.

It is dark about half the time in Tennessee these days.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Actually, I just re-watched the original in preparation for the new one. It was as good as I remember, but also felt very dated (like me).

One thing that really struck me was how similar some of the background music was to the music in the original series of Star Trek.

A huge pet peeve of mine is how loud, and how relentless and constant, the music is in movies and TV shows today.

Improper speaker setup.

Fohat needs to use DSP room correction and set stereo matrix downmix manually.

DSP is honestly non-negotiable now that it's actually affordable, or even <sort of> free if you buy the measurement microphone.

Absolutely not, it is built in. Music in movies and TV shows today is no longer "background" and they even love to run it right over people speaking.

Not to mention that nowadays actors (and, to a lesser extent actresses) seem to delight in poor enunciation, and, in particular, letting their voices fall off when they get to the essence or "punch lines" of important and significant sentences.

I agree directors have zero inkling how to sound balance these days. Look at any Chris Nolan movie - quiet, almost whisper dialogue, punctuated by BWAAOOOOOOOMMMMMM BWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Sorry what was that Mr. Nolan? I caught everything up until the foghorn.

A calibrated sound system is a happy sound system.

Dialogue clarity is critically diminished if the frequency response is not neutral.

Upgraded with HDR colors and highlights.

Magneto is also way more muscular than back in the day.

Finished Constellation. It was... silly. Nothing spectacular, at least for me personally. There were moments when I thought it might be interesting, but then it all went down to some well known subject and did not bring anything new.

Tp was already disappointed in constellation,  it just turned bland half way through.

Watch Xmen 97, only 3 episodes, but it takes us back to the golden age of animated batman.

The new Shogun is just OK. It is dark, rainy, muddy, with more sex and blood.
Shot in British Columbia, so it does not look quite like Japan, and then lots of CGI on top of that, and then filter/colour grading on top of that to make it look like a gloomy day, which makes it look even more fake.

The new Blackthorne is mostly a bumbling idiot, and the new Mariko just looks smug all the time. The worst of the whole cast IMHO. Some good performances by Japanese actors in smaller roles.
The actual star of the show is Hiroyuki Sanada as the titular Shogun-to-be. (and he is also a producer)
There is more Japanese politics, characters and intrigue than in the old show (that supposedly had been left out then, but are in the book. I can't quite remember)

It's truly a shame that there are no "Good" copies of Xmen animated 1997 around. Even the DVDs are really blurry/ interlaced artifacted.

The web version is OK, but very very low bitrate, and bad aliasing.

WTH, Swear to God, this is a Secret government campaign to get japanese people to exercise by making it some magic story trope ? We also saw this in 1punch.

Also, can most japanese people run 10k ? The average american can not complete 1K without walking most of it.

Ok, hrrrm. Just finished Solo-Leveling. Yes, it's yet another Isekai. However, it is elegantly presented. A balanced progression trope without relying on trashy fan-service or absurd power fantasy.

The artwork is budget oriented, but it's effective, svelte and graceful.

It's only 20 minutes, still fun to watch, rabbits doing military commando stuff. Shame netflix doesn't pick it up for a whole series.

Interstellar, so good.   Watched multiple times, bit confusn' about plot.

If the aliens couldn't find the right space time coordinates to communicate, how did they send the main character back at the right time/ right place to be picked up. Are we to asssssume they just eyeballed it?

Also, why couldn't they find the right coordinate, it would've been a matter of record for them, unless we asssssume they "Forgot"

Movie's great for screenshots, every other scene would make a good background.  Film has beautiful starfields. Alot of movie have starfields, but they're blunt/ugly ones.

Interstellar, so good.

The bit about repopulating the entire planet with embryos from a space craft really creeped me out for some reason. That part unlocked some weird primal fear in me for some reason.

IDK maybe the way it was presented in IS where every human is just tubes of goo in drawers. To see an entire planetary species boiled down to how I store my cutlery just creeped me tf out.

Wonder why they didn't splice any animal dna. If they genetically enhanced humans with animal abilities (genome), it'd greatly increase survivability.

Go ninja go ninja go.
