The Killers Game (2024)..

Late night action flick, perfectly suited.

It doesn't take itself seriously, it plays within its means, the setups are not grandiose, but they look organic.

The rate at which this type of movie is being printed, we're really starting to see how even take-out can be quite high quality with the technology that's available.

The remaining hesitation when presented will yet another kill-a-thon, is of course our desensitization to murder. Does the line go no further than this. Is this peak human imagination.

Anime is in a rut.

It's like pop music, all converged on a few layouts, and the market demand locks it in.

Watched Terrifier 3. IDK what I was expecting.
I didn't care for the first one, and think I just got bored and turned it off at some point. Skipped the second movie. Third just seems like more of the same.
I'm a big fan of horror and gore, but this just feels like torture porn to me. No interesting characters, no real plot. Just some idiot dressed as a clown torturing people for 2hrs. Guess I'm just getting too old to enjoy that kinda stuff anymore.
Even Human Centipede had some redeeming qualities, Terrifier is just... lame.

We knew Romulus was gon' be really gud @ home w/ HDR TVs.

It's really gud', they kept the highlights tame enough for everything to feel organic and not forced. Overall, extreme effective use.

Just finished the j00ce.

This is a home run. The film faithfully carries the silly-macabre of its predecessor. Beneath the artistry is alot of commentary. It broadly plays on the dreary undertones of imperialist social structures. There is wholesome humanity in each person, suppressed by this horrifying organization we've imposed upon ourselves. The atmosphere reflects modernity's deep unease and pervasive dread. Our debased core driven to vices, souls lost in a land of drunken stupor.

No natural human being living in the Kalahari was homeless, unemployed, or tragically unloved. There are no bosses, strangers who fatten themselves on the Bulk-Of-Your-Labor. What the f' are we doing? Who agreed to this? These are all constructs of the hellish nightmare we're living in. There was no home separate from work, there was no job, just your deeds, there was NO LOVE, it was just you and your best buddies, digging up potatoes, and eating them.

Tp4 is not saying Socialist Anarchy is the best way, but it's better than what we have.

Who agreed to this?

People who did not understand and defend (including many of my ancestors) "the American Experiment" implicitly agreed to it by not opposing it.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

I'm not sure most people knew that that was going on. They were elated from the war, and then defaulted to the same Imperialism which started that war.

Now, we're about to do it all again.. Explicitly stated and supported by BOTH presidential candidates.

Military contractors, woah, Money Money Money, I'm gonna need that for when all my kids get leukemia.

Watching The Penguin. Still sort of undecided on it. Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti are the obvious standout talents. Although the Penguin is supposed to be the titular character, he just isn't that interesting to me and a bit one-note. While Farrell does a great job of 'making himself disappear' into the part, at the end of the day he is still just playing a goon, and I wonder how much of the incredible makeup work is doing the lifting. Also, none of the characters make you particularly like them for any reason either, Penguin especially goes out of the way to be a ****ty individual. Is the audience supposed to sympathize with him, and if so, why?
But I am feeling a bit bored for what this show is based in. Feels more like the pace of The Godfather than a Batman-adjacent one, and the sets just don't make me believe gritty grimey Gothem. Especially the street scenes, they are just way too sterile and modern.

At the end of the day I will keep watching. It didn't bore the pants off me like a Moonknight, it is not straight up bad like She-Hulk, but it sure as **** aint no Peacemaker. It is only half-way through the season, so there is room to grow.

Batman outside of the cartoons never made any sense. The cartoon didn't make sense either, but it didn't have to, it was a cartoon.

Seriously,  if dat Skinet wasn't such a crap AI, it'd have sent back a Summer Glau terminator.  John Connor would be dead in all of 12 seconds.

Honestly, if a terminator like the 101 can travel back, why do they need John Connor at all.

There are a billion ways to ensure the singularity happens.  The terminator can simply inject code into the internet.  Itself would be a repository.  What we know of AIs, the output isn't that large, it's only big when it's being trained. You wouldn't need much to carry the seed.

I guess skynet never cracked the storage barrier? No crystal 3d storage?

Despicable Me 4.

This movie is graded eye searingly bright. And there is so much use of Gold. Samsung should demo this on their quantum oled, gold is notoriously hard for tvs to display correctly.

Seeing Wild Robot sitting at 98% for both critic and audience scores just reinforces my opinion that Rotten Tomatoes is total bull**** and cannot be trusted.
Mind you, I have not seen the movie and I'm sure it's perfectly adequate, but I HIGHLY doubt it is one of the 20 greatest films ever made in human history.

As a kid's movie, it's top 5.

Different ladders, obviously, it's no where near top 20 if you're an HBO secsploitation audience.

Can't beat the bitrate on Disc.

The little textures just come out.

It's nice that they're utilizing these older actresses, but the digital airbrushing is getting a little too heavy handed, it looks really perturbed. Claptrap is fantastic, he's probably the reason 99% of people show up for.

Overall, Watching this movie a second time, it's really good for a video game movie,  Ignoring the Diddy accomplice Kevin Hart issue of course.. Just pretend he's not there, cancel him from the movie.

Hrrrm.. Just watched it,

One would suppose, the proper allegory is parent-child right? The children take from the parent, and eventually the parent ceases.

It's an alrite concept, they've used body horror in expressing it.

A more traditional arc structure of this type is a Jealous mid-age mother who attempts to sabotage her youthful daughter.

Cinderella/ Snow White, basically the same.

Tp4 went to an Italian front recently,  pretty bad food. Don't think they were trying. In the TV shows, it looks like they make good food. Not so much in real life.

Just watched 1st episode of Penguin as directed by Llann.

It's good, script's tight, all the actors carry..

One'd guess, this is Llann's favorite character so far, strong female archetypes n' such.

Not'gn' lie, she's killing it so far.  Looks really good for 39, yea they gotta air-bursh her a little harder so we see fuzzies here and there, but still good..

Sssssssss.. Ok, Episode 5.

Now, Cristin Milioti.  Look she's a good actress, and Beautiful, yes, she's nice to look at, an understatement.

But realistically,  HBO's made the same mistake with Emilia Clarke.

They only filled their respective characters, because the writers wrote them in. They do not have that Queen's Aura, like Charlize Theron, Sigourney Weaver.

Moving forward, they should replace her with a more mature actress who would be believable as the leader of a crime syndicate.

Her acting skills, and actual age isn't in question, she's clearly old enough, and can clearly act. But screen presence is something independent of that. She is not right for the role.

Finally,  they are dressing her inappropriately. She's being robed like a cheap secs-pot character. It doesn't matter how many guys they let her shoot on screen, it's not the right layout.

To all our movie fans/freaks :)
I cannot find a movie from old times, can you please help me?

It was either end of 80s or early 90s. I watched it as a little kid so may miss some details.
It was a movie about car factory, pretty sure there were lots of Japanese workers, it could be Japanese manufactory, like maybe movie about Toyota company or something like that. It was US movie, I'm pretty sure as well. Cannot tell where was the story located, if it was in Japan or US. I could even be a movie about General Motors for example...
All I remember that movie showed the struggle of employees lives and the process of making cars. I think it ended up showing how many people lost their jobs there, due to either company take-over or introducing robots in the manufactury production lines, dont remember that part, but I think it had a rather sad end - it feels like it was base don tru story, so maybe it was Toyota (dont think it was that comedy Gung Ho), or GM, or anything else...
Could it be Detroit factory? Cannot remember.

I cannot find a movie from old times

I can't help you with the manufacturing movie, but your thread reply makes me want to go off on a tangent.

My father's 1st cousin was a minor star in Hollywood in the mid-late 1930s to the mid-1940s, and had supporting roles in well over a dozen movies and TV shows. But almost all of them seem to be gone. (Most enduring role was as a love interest for Young Doctor Kildare.)

Apparently the old-style acetate film deteriorates badly over time. What a shame.

As a famous egyptologist said,  Only the living can protect the dead.

That's why pyramids had doors which can open. So people can come in and visit.

Might be, Gung ho (1986),  or Roger & Me (1989).

I was thinking of Blue Collar with Richard Pryor and Harvey Keitel, but your description sounds different. Could it have been a documentary?

Blue Collar is a great and underrated movie though. I'd recommend it  :thumb:

That also includes a great and obscure song by Captain Beefheart!

Years ago, thinking it was a cash cow, studios basically held a "fire sale" in order to focus on streaming platforms (hence the recent writer strike), basically they cut all costs and sold off anything they could in order to build up streaming services and in the process all but abandoned making anything innovative. The streaming services failed to gain traction and now we're left with a bunch of networks spending all they can to slowly build up again. They failed to realize Netflix and Hulu worked because it pulled from lots of networks, not because people just handed them money for no reason. They also forgot the whole point, it was cheaper than a cable subscription, which by the time you got all the various streams you needed you were now spending even more, plus an internet bill.

This is also why cable co's will never let you have À la carte, because only a few channels are actually profitable, a LOT of your cable bill is just subsidizing all those other little channels that would fail otherwise.
