First soldering job went bad ..

Uh ooh ..

143138-0

So today I decided to take the leap and replace the Kailh switches on my RK61 with Gateron blacks. I had never desoldered anything before and I used a desoldering iron. 61 switches and 244 soldering points took a lot of time .. and somewhere along I noticed that the 5-key wasn't working with the new switch. I desoldered it again and a small ring came off the PCB. After three attempts or so I finished the rest of the board and all the other keys are working fine.

Can I still fix this somehow? I probed around the board and I found a point that is connected to the 5-key solder point. I've included a photo of this point, it is incredibly small.

Hope you have some suggestions  :thumb:
Thanks guys   :-X

If you can see another switch connected to the traces coming off that tiny via that would be easier to solder to, if not post a pic of a bigger area and we'll find somewhere :)

Thanks for the response. I looked but could not find any point, it seems to go into the board .. I've highlighted the solder point and trace points. I've poked around but I can't find anything ..

I appreciate your help

Yeah! It's working again, thank you for your tip! Turns out it was right next to the lowest trace point, I just missed it! Thanks again, couldn't have done it without ya

I've done many of these bypass in the past..

IMHO, they're not reliable when the wire is long..

I would just scratch the pcb with the knife and expose some copper and solder to it.. keeps the wire short.

Thanks, the wire is about 4 cm. I was worried about the same thing but I haven't noticed any problems yet. I'll be using this on my tablet for most of the time so I think it will be good, I don't use the tablet for heavy typing. But, I did look into soldering into the traces themselves after my first post. Do you have any tips and tricks on how to do that? It looks very difficult.

Ahh, the sweetness of typing on a 60% bluetooth keyboard with Gateron Blacks ... I love this keyboard :)
Didn't bother with the Pok3r since it has no bluetooth.

Cheers
