The Ergopwn Xtreme 9000.... First Vertical Gaming Mouse Ever
« on: Wed, 27 July 2016, 09:09:27 »
As far as I know this is the first Vertical mouse ever with a pixart 3366 sensor..

After trying vertical, you really begin to see the tremendous flaw of turning one's wrist so deeply to hold a regular horizontal mouse..

I've been using this specific vertical mouse for 4 days total thus far,  and have come to the conclusion that, There is no going back..

Overall, I find that this shape is the most vertical and most tension relieving among the other vertical mice. (I've tried them ALL)

Since there are no commercially available vertical mouse with a good sensor,  it was necessary to splice..

Materials Required:

1____   23/24 awg solid copper wire.

2____   Twist ties to mount base to pcb

3____   USB 2.0 Hub (full speed), @ least 2 ports.....  $4 ebay

4____   Nanokk, Evoluent mouse Knockoff, (perfect shape clone)..... $20 ebay

5____   Logitech G303........ $24 amazon sale

6____   1 set of WMO Hyperglides.....

Make sure to Cover the Lens while you work on the mouse.. Don't wanna melt the lens via stray solder.

--- It's a very straight forward mod, snap hub in 2 pieces, hook up both mouse (internally) to the hub piece with the chip on it..  solder buttons to g303, keep wheel attached to nanokk..

159012-2

159014-3

159016-4

159020-6

More

Key Insight:

the Nanokk uses a mechanical wheel encoder, whereas the logitech uses an optical system.

This is the reason why you need a hub to preserve the wheel functionality.  This is essentially 2 mouse in 1.. running in parallel.

The reason there are so many extra cables in the later picture, is because all the buttons with the exception of the wheel-up, wheel-down, are wired to the G303.  The G303 has much lower click/button latency vs other mice..  You can skip this step to keep things more simple,  but then WHY DO IT, if you're not going to go all the way..

The mouse weighs 135 Grams in this configuration..  Can be lightened, by sacrificing wheel functionality..  dropping 2 extra pcbs.. (it won't be much lighter 10-15g)..

The USB pin out label on the Nanokk PCB has DM and DP flipped.. VCC and G is correct

Evoluent is the worst conceivable vertical mouse configuration in the universe.

By its nature you must "pinch" it between thumb and fingers - there is no simple 1-finger tapping because "equal and opposite reaction" will cause it to move unless it is restrained by the thumb.

Neither vertical nor horizontal is best. The mouse should lean in at about 45 degrees so that the wrist is rolled over partially but gravity is still working in your favor.

I just wish that a decent left-hand vertical mouse existed.
In 1979 Jimmy Carter warned of a spiritual crisis that he identified as toxic to American ideals: "Too many of us now tend to worship self-indulgence and consumption. Human identity is no longer defined by what one does, but by what one owns. But we’ve discovered that owning things and consuming things does not satisfy our longing for meaning. You see every extreme position defended to the last vote, almost to the last breath by one unyielding group or another. We see a balanced and fair approach that demands sacrifice, a little sacrifice from everyone, abandoned like an orphan without support and without friends. We have lost our way … because we have exalted “a mistaken idea of freedom"; our self-indulgence had led us to assert every right as absolute, every form of compromise or regulation as inimical to freedom, and to elevate the very avatar of self-absorption to the highest office in the land.” (ie Reagan!) Carter warned the nation against following the “path that leads to fragmentation and self-interest”, for “down that road lies a mistaken idea of freedom, the right to grasp for ourselves some advantage over others”.

Evoluent is by far the best shape..

I can understand how a novice to ergonomics might not understand how to use one. .hahahaha

Very basically, you have to learn to lightly pinch the mouse between the thumb and pinky..

Ontop of that, Mouse height must be adjusted to BELOW elbow height..

There is an adjustment in TECHNIQUE, that comes with vertical mousing..

You can't expect all your old habits to work,  they don't..

Fohat's complaint is the same as those who are not using the ERGODOX properly

As for 45* mouse,  It does not solve the wrist angle problem whatsoever

The reason is,  If you tilt even 45degrees, you are STILL rotating inwards in order to click the button..

You're essentially pushing against the rotation in your wrist..

This rotational stress is responsible for the majority of forearm related RSI..

I think , the next step, even better, is something similar to the FPS gun mouse by Zalman..

yeah it's the only option but it's like $500 and has a split ANSI layout

i'm drooling at the thought of a proper ergodox with topre pcb/plate support though

2 Weeks in w/ the Ergopwn..

Pain free...!!

Confident this is the way to go...

All wrist and forearm rigidness is gone..

No longer get that pain/soreness on the --inside-- of the --middle-- of forearm right behind the wrist..

Hi,
I thought after this posting I saw you mention that using the the Logitech G304 as donor for decent sensors simplified the operation. (no longer needs the hub), but I can't find that reference any longer.
Was I dreaming? or can you point me to that reference?

Thank you.

If the mouse uses a mechanical rotary encoder wheel , you probably won't need the hub..

I say probably because I don't actually own any of the new logitech mechanical wheel mouse.

the Gpro, and 403  But overall,  i'm 90% sure it will work, because that rotary encoder looks to be the generic type used in nearly Every other mouse.

I think g304 is only international, haven't seen one.

Vertical gaming mouse is an oxymoron - I think you meant, Vertical mouse that you could potentially play games with

Ah yes, I meant the g403 not the g304. I was working from fallible memory. Thanks.

Hahahaha..

After I got used to it,   it works just as well for me..   and the comfort is unparallel..

But since I'm one of probably 20 people who's got a bolt together mouse..   the Science is still out..

But that DOES make Tp4 a Leading authority on the subject..  .. hahahahaha
