How many people commute with their daily driver keyboard?
« on: Sun, 04 December 2016, 12:03:45 »
I take my TADA to work with me every day. I have a 1UP sleeve and put it in my backpack. Are there any downfalls to this other than the chances of my bag getting crushed? Didn't know if unplugging it and plugging it back in a few times a day could cause extra harm etc.

That takes serious commitment.. back and forth and back and forth.. put the case on, take it off, put it on, off.. on off...

A utilitarian would say, you're throwing your life away, wasted upon such menial trivialities..

But I suppose it makes sense to the Keyboard Dedicant..

My Realforce just stays at work. Once my Minivan comes in and I build it, I'll take that with me on my trips.

Take my HHKB with me every day to/from work. Have a cloth sleeve but sadly it isn't padded. It really isn't a problem. Plug it in/out in the morning and at the end of the day. Sometimes I leave at work but rarely. I'm too broke (still) to own to two HHKBs, maybe some day.

EDIT: Reason why I take it with me is because I'm afraid that a) the cleaning lady would take it (there's been random **** missing every now and then) AND b) if anything bad happens to the office, everyone else would be running out and not save my board.

I know people do this, but I couldn't see why xD .

Of course in my case it'd mean lugging at least something like a Bigfoot around, which isn't practical xD .
Check my keyboard video reviews:

I want my next board pretty similar to this one so when I have the money and find a kit I will most likely leave that one at work and the TADA at home or vice versa. Thanks for the replies. I just love this board so damn much that I want no other switch right now other than sweet buttery gat blacks.

I do carry a keyboard to and from work but it's not my daily driver. That stays at my PC at all times.

I take my work board home everyday, but it's not the board I use at home. The main reason I take it home is the sheer cost of my work board. If something was to happen to my board when I wasn't around I highly doubt my work would replace it at its perceived value.

The same here. I do use my HHKB at home sometimes but rarely. I don't have desktop and for an hour or two it's not worth setting up my portable setup. If I'm working on weekends than I would set up my "portable" setup though.

Even Cherry thought about this possibility:

More

I'll leave a full size or TKL keyboard at work (but that is usually provided to me by the IT department). If that keyboard from my collection and is expensive, I may want to lock my keyboard in my drawer or closet after work, despite this practice may make me look like a weirdo in the eyes of my colleagues.
When I'm on the road, I am most of the time with my ThinkPad and I'm happy with its keyboard. However, if I found I may miss a newly favorite keyboard, I may still take it with me in a sleeve, but that's at most a 60% or 65%, not any bigger. If I am traveling I think a 40% + iPad can be a lovely mobile setup.
Wishlist: 1) nice thick Alps caps; 2) Cherry profile POM;

Wishful-list: 1) We order from keyboard-layout-editor.com; 2) usable Trackpoint module for all keyboards

I leave my FC660C on my desk every night. Too lazy to travel with it every day and I would end up forgetting it at home and have no keyboard at work. Co-worker takes his HHKB with him every night so I think it's just a preference/amount of laziness thing.

if i had my own desk i'd love to leave my lightsaver at work... heavy as **** to lug around. I bought it specifically for work since it has a numberpad...

lz-s never leaves the house.

sometimes i bring in another keyboard to work, for a while where I didn't need my lightsaver i'd just carry the minivan back and forth since it's so light :P

I take my 1800 back and forth with me, but then I drive to and from work.

The Micro USB connections on a PCB can be pretty fragile, so if your board connects using micro USB it's probably not a great idea to keep plugging and unplugging it. However the connections on mini USB are a lot stronger.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

I leave my HHKB at home, I would bring it but I use Excel 24/7 working in banking and need to use F keys all the time.  I'm thinking about picking up a Novatouch and leaving it at work though

I take my keyboard in on Monday and home on Friday. I spend my Sundays working on my app, so I don't need it at home throughout the rest of the week.
