Observations and Conclusion:So, It was odd that the Samsung card was so much slower in my Samsung phone, as Samsung has been caught red-handed cheating in Benchmarks by Review sites, You'd think samsung would cheat with their cards in their own fone.. But alas this doesn't seem to be the case.
An explanation for this lower performance would be perhaps Samsung card use a more involved wear-leveling algorithm. This would inherently slow down the cards, because the card needs to take more time with its allocation.
Another possibility that Samsung is slower is that, they've tuned the controller for more durable continuous writing. These cards get real hot during continuous I/O, so you can tune either for peak performance which heats up, or tune it for continuous where it's more towards warm.
I know for a fact (contacted sandisk) that their extreme lines are NOT designed for continuous i/o and it in fact voids the warranty.
The Sandisk Extreme (2016) is a newer iteration than the Original Sandisk Extremes sold in 2014 which were TLC.
The Newly Produced Line of Sandisk Extreme and Ex Pro are now MLC..
The fact that the Sandisk Extreme PRO is slower than the Extreme in my fone would Indicated that the Newest 2016 iteration of the Extreme either has a stronger microcontroller, or uses less aggressive wear leveling.
The Extreme only loses to the Extreme Pro and Samsung Pro Select in Sequential Write, Something that really doesn't matter because these cards are not going into expensive DSLRs..
These chips are mostly going into Cellphones and GoPros, both of which only writes at a Max speed of 7.5MB/s for their 4K video recording.
They would certainly work well in a raspberry pi for ur pi server needs.
It's impossible to test durability, because there's no way any one guy would have a large sample size of these cards, since they're not commonly used in bulk quantities.
Based on these tests, Sandisk Extreme seems to be the Best Choice for Performance... Samsung Pro+ is being retired, replaced by Pro Select
NEW line of Sandisk Extreme Pro is now UHS-II only, the UHS-I cards of the Older PRO line is now called Extreme Plus.
UPDATE:Sandisk Extreme 128GB, the 128gb is indeed slower than the 64gb variant .. (Not by much) .. but slower..Performance in Cellfone
