[Raleigh/Durham] Meet up time! - Sunday Feb 26th
« on: Tue, 31 January 2017, 12:22:35 »
Ok local folks, its been quite a bit of time since we got together and I figured we should probably set something up. I'm taking the initiative and calling a meeting of nerds here in Raleigh on Sunday 2/26 at 11am at The Landing co-working space. We have the place to ourselves for the day but I figured we'd just schedule a few hours and go from there. Heres the details:

Where:

7406 Chapel Hill Road, Suite C
Raleigh, NC
27607
Google Maps

When:
Sunday February 26th
11am till ~2pm

Ideas:
-Lots of table space for people to bring some boards obviously
-Multiple rooms for congregating
-Maybe a For-sale table if people want
-Food and softdrinks/water at the "bar" area in the front
-BYOB beer exchange - bring a couple of your favorite microbrews to put in the community cooler
-Check out the new "Bottle Dog" bottle shop and hotdog/pizza place a mile down the street (by Woody's)
-Giveaway
-Soldering station setup if people want to try out building a board or desoldering a board with guidance
-Free wi-fi

Cost:
Free.
I will take care of the arrangements as my wife actually co-owns The Landing. They are however, going out of business next month so I would love to help her out toward her rent on the place by collecting donations (cash, paypal). The normal rate to rent the whole place for a weekend day is like $500 I think. As for food and drinks... if there are enough people interested i'd be happy to supply that. If not, I'll just bring some coke/diet/water for non-beer people and we'll just eat at Bottle Dog afterward.

Please take a minute and fill in the Google Form (even if you cant make it)

Thanks! And hopefully I see you all there!

I love in Seattle, but I will be over that way around then. Happy to come, but sadly, no boards to bring.

Got the wife slicing up some vinyl for us next weekend. I'll try and do some "topre" and "cherry" ones as well. Any special color requests besides black or white?
(is anyone from gh coming? lol)

I will fly in at like 10 am from Seattle. So I will be present (awake is another question entirely). Sadly, light packing on work trip, so I have no keyboards to bring.

Did you repost this on reddit's mechanicalKeyboards sub and deskthority?

I put together a board to play with soldering tomorrow. Some good/bad examples and different solder types. An expensive iron and a cheap one, good solder sucker and a cheap one, and plenty of room to practice.

This is actually what I am most excited about. Just purchased my first kit, the let's split GB. But since I haven't soldered since high school, it will be great to try again. And maybe get some practice in prior to assembling my board.

Cool! I might set aside a few minutes to do a little demo and give some people some tips on building their first board maybe around 1pm so people can have time to sit and practice.

Cool, hope you can stop by!

Right now there are 38 "yes" responses to the google form.. So probably a bit less than that will hopefully be there.

^ very cool! i'm going to raffle off a few artisans. I've got raffle tickets and I guess we'll do $5 tickets instead of donations to help me pay for the rent. :thumb:

Oh man, I learned a lot. OfTheWild, thank you man for organizing all that. Finally feel confident about soldering my first board. So many options!

Drifting through the boards
The click of switches depressed,
My wallet empties.

Doh! Totally missed this... FeelsBadMan
I generally hate all keycaps. Keycaps are for poofs. Real men touchtype on stems. Non-functional artisans are awesome, I use them for the ESC key ... escape is for cowards anyways, real men go frontal assault.

You're welcome! It was great meeting everyone new and catching up with folks i havent seen since last year. Go build your board and have fun. Honestly the hardest part is just settling on what setup you want to commit to! Let me know if you need a hand or have a question while you're working on it. I'm always available to anyone that wants to come over and work on stuff.
