Hello friends of Geekhack,

We are happy to present to you Doro67, an integrated plate 65% customized keyboard set.

Doro67's look is inspired by RAMA's M65A. The purpose of this design to build an aesthetically simplistic everyday workhorse keyboard. To achieve consistent keypress feedback, Doro67 adopts an integrated plate that is 4mm thick, which is compatible with a few layouts. In order to achieve a comfortable typing experience with high-profile keycaps such as the SA caps, Doro67 applies a lower keyboard profile (height) than a majority of the keyboards on the market. Further, to keep a stable connection, the USB connector will use a separate sub-board from the PCB.

203001-0

203003-1

203007-2

203009-3

One key design feature of this keyboard is the 4mm integrated plate.

203011-4

Features:

1. 6061 Aluminum Case
2. 4mm Integrated Plate, 4 Layouts
3. QMK PCB, with options for RGB LED PCB or Regular (Compatible) PCB
4. 8 degrees slope
5. USB-C (C2C) connector (cord not included)
6. 4 rubber feet included
7. Logo Engraving on the Bottom
8. Customized keyboard box
9. Designed by 80ULTRAMAN from the BackProp Studio (Gghi on Geekhack)
10. Manufactured by ALF

We will provide the standard 9 colors, identical to the ALF DC60 GB, with the option to upgrade to the Pearl White with an additional cost. Please see below.

Update on colors: an additional titanium grey color option will be added. So we have a total of 10+1 colors.

201523-5

Progress:

Currently, the prototype PCB has been fully tested, the prototype case is with the manufacturer.

8/9/2018: CNC Prototype finished, waiting for anodization.

8/14/2018: Prototype finished. Test completed. Minor modifications will be made.

8/16/2018: A couple of updates
a. Modifications sent to manufacturer, additional prototype may be made.
b. The main design will stay the same. We will provide a few option for customizations (e.g., split backspace/space/shift/iso, for a small customization fee for those who need it). Customization is very costly, and we will try to provide all options we are able to negotiate.
c. Bottom slab is 3mm thick, for those who want to know.

9/2/2018: A couple of updates
a. 80ultraman confirmed that he will make 2 versions of PCBs. Default layout buyers will have the option to upgrade to an RGB PCB at a small fee (details forthcoming).
b. We are expecting the shipment of two second prototypes (white/black) on Tuesday!

9/4/2018:
Prototype (1 black, 1 white) finished, shipped to our tester, we will come back with updates very shortly!

9/5/2018:
Prototype (1 black, 1 white) received and images updated. GB coming!

To-do list:

1. Test the compatibility of PCB and the case
2. Optimize the USB connector case holes and the details of the case
3. Make a deal with the manufacturer (ALF) and set final pricing (estimated under ~$250 with a set of Case and PCB)

4. Run Group Buy!

Thanks for all the feedback, that's really helpful!

I will declare some details and compromises here, you can skip this if you are not interested.

Layout:

I know a lot of you guys hate those "compatible plates", which full of holes make switches unstable. It is also important to me, I wanna the plate has a minimal cut, make it clean and steady. As other layouts, since this is an integrated plate keyboard, fully customization will probably end up 10+ different version of the top case. That is not affordable.

So, we decide to provide 4 top case versions:

1. Default
2. Blocker Compatible +$20
3. ISO +$20
4. Non-block Compatible +$20

The following picture shows the compatibility of each version and the cutout of the plate.

I realize this can't make everyone happy, but it is the best we can do.

PCB:

After receiving some request for back-lighting, I added an in-switch RGB PCB cost extra $15. The RGB version only supports default layout. You can only choose Multi-compatible PCB if you prefer other layouts.

Both of the PCBs compatible with QMK firmware

Both of them are matte black with gold solder mask

Bottom option:

Sorry for the delay of the brass sample, but we still offer that option. you can either upgrade to the brass bottom slab for extra $50 or have an addition brass bottom for $70. Here are some samples of other brass hardware.

Logo option:

The bottom IC shows that quite a few like the logo but seem to hate the text. I think it's weird simply remove the text. I decide to keep the logo as a default, if you hate it so much you can choose to not have it.

Box

The keyboard will come with a box. Here's a leak:

Rubber feet
The rubber feet will change to following in the final product. I will give some extra both black and grey.

Gap

The Gap between caps and the top case will be smaller in the final product.

Size: 335 × 127 × 33mm

Weight: 1.4kg / 3.1lb default alu case including PCB, switches and SA caps.

front height: 17mm (switches sit 2mm lower)

I put a lot effort to lower the overall height of this keyboard, make it lower than most custom and mass production keyboards. You can see from the picture, Doro with SA caps has the same height as Skog with GMK. I think this will give you a better experience if you prefer high-profile caps.

looks really great cant wait for protos of it :D

would love to know how an integrated plate will feel like to type on and how it sounds as well.
Is there a reason why you decided to integrate the plate with the case?

I love it, but i would like for it to have a rounded chamfer to differentiate it from the M65 more.
Also, split backspace support and the plate could be 4.5mm even!  :thumb:

I think most customized keyboards not as good as massive products because of the plate. So I wanna make a thicker, consistent plate.

That is not even remotely constructive. Also this design just takes inspiration from the RAMA-65 from which I can clearly tell the difference.

I dunno, man. The top bezel is pretty spot on besides the blocker:

And the side profile:

Is the difference in construction enough to constitute this as a new design? Given how many other cases look similar, it seems fine to me, but I would also like to see more play in the overall design.

Yes, the distance between plate and top of the case will be a little bit large(8mm). I will carefully make sure it looks good for both SA and Cherry caps (will update compare pics when I receive prototype).

MT3 will look great on this board too. I agree with many that since GMK is the go-to choice for most people, it will be great to consider the cherry profile keycaps in this design carefully.

Ever thought about lowering the angle and making it less tall like you say in the OP? It looks nearly identical as the M65 angle, height, and bezel wise. The M65 height and angle, more so the angle imo, are terrible for SA profile (like you state in OP as well).

The keyboard is lower than a majority of keyboards actually, but there is a larger gap between the plate and the case top, such that high-profile caps will work quite well with it.

hot swappable seems a great idea since it will be easier to change PCBs and switches. But this will require a different design to fix the pcb (maybe mount to top case)

Don't they have different colors?   Dark blue,  dark grey,  for example, would look much better.
