I have a key bound to spam that in CS:GO chat.

For me, the decision to move to mechanical keyboards was primarily economic.

Similar problem here. I plowed through rubber domes. I also had issues with the domes getting stuck partially inside-out. I can not believe my laptop keyboard is still in tact...

there are used mechanical keyboards that can be grabbed for a song...........

apple aek and aek II's are great boards and do not require a large investment, etc.

there is nothing wrong with SMK's or futaba's either, but are not as popular as MX.

my linear futaba is as smooth as any switch you can type on, steel plate too.

For people who use their computer for browsing, facebook and the occasional LoL game, mechanical keyboards are as useful as a high end tower. They're cool, better, but not worth the cost. But anyone spending more than 1-2 hours a day in front of their computer will really appreciate the change. I'm relatively new to mechs (converted after seeing r/mechanicalkeyboards about a month ago), but after using my Poker II for little over 2 days I can definitely say it is money well spent. Typing is just fun now.

But in typical GH fashion, we are having an excellent discussion nonetheless.

Tools in general are way overrated. We should go back to living in caves in the forest, killing animals with rocks, and pulling off chunks of raw meat to eat with our teeth.

Did you know you can get $100 tweezers? For some people it's worth the investment. Jacobolus' point, if I am interpreting it correctly as irony is quite a valid one.

My point is a little different: is anything "worth the money"? Does money have worth? There are people who use keyboards all the time and can justify spending $thousands on ergonomic ones to help with their pain. With such an investment, I would want a repairable keyboard for sure, so I can ensure it's continued operation.

For some it's something nice to put together and show off a little. I think it's like a car paint-job or a custom computer case in that respect.

For some it's something to hack on, modify, and convert. For these people it might be more akin to a hot rod.

In the two above cases, its' a nice hobby and in such cases, the monetary investment isn't really a concern (provided it's still in the realm of "play money")

Congratulations on your recent acquisition.  Yes, typing is more fun with a good mechanical keyboard.  Just try not to convince yourself that you need another one to try a different switch

Greece has no market for mechanical keyboards and therefore I had to order one from the US. Insane shipping costs which sky rocketed the price even if the $ is lower than the Euro.

I had the keyboard for 6 months functioning like a charm, then out of a sudden horrible chatter appeared. I can't fix it, I can't send it back since it's out of warranty, only thing I can do is sell it.

So for me, it kind of doesn't worth the money if there are/appear problems. Supreme typing feel yes, awesome quality yes, ****storm if issues appear though.

Is it bad to admit that the clicking of the MX Blue switches are what drew me into getting a mechanical keyboard? I don't know, a keyboard's a keyboard but it's all personal preference. You don't need to justify the price of a good to somebody because more often then not (in my case) they will disagree with you, and that's fine.

Those are what drew me into keyboards in the beginning! My first keyboard was a razer  blackwidow with blues. But after that i discovered browns and reds which i like since theyre quieter and now i'm about to build one with clears ) i think they are worth the money only because anything is better than rubber domes
