RIP Internet Explorer ?
« on: Wed, 15 June 2022, 17:26:17 »
Today I heard that IE is being permanently discontinued.

Personally, I got on Firefox soon after it came out and have been there almost continuously since.

I avoided IE as much as I could, but for a long time it seemed like the easiest way to update MS software so I let it hang around on the sideline.

(1) Q: Why did Republicans Become So Extreme? A: Because they wished to tap into the fears of white, rural and small-town Americans against a changing nation.
(2) Q: Why do they want to tap into this fear? A: Because fear and rage more reliably turns out voters.
(3) Q: Why do they use these tactics? A: Because emotion clouds reason.
(4) Q: Why don’t they want voters to use reason? A: Because they might notice the policies the GOP is pursuing are not for the benefit of a majority of the voters, their communities or the country as a whole
(5) Q: Why don’t they want to pursue policies that would benefit the majority of their voters? A: Because the majority of their voters are not providing the majority of their funding.

Good.
Should have happened years ago.

And not rest in peace, let it rot in hell.

Firefox is my only browser since years  and I love it so much.

I used Chrome around 2010 when Firefox was slow but now, Firefox is IMHO the best browser available on the market :)

No big deal. It has been practically dead for the consumer a long time now. Only kept alive because of bureaucracy in some organisations.

Only kept alive because of bureaucracy in some organisations.

There is a LOT of companies who force it's use internally and externally, seriously, it's a lot.

So long as MS left it available, they were never going to redo these websites, some still won't.

force it's use internally and externally

So, it will continue to exist without support, for as long as users want to use it? And will a cottage industry come along and provide ongoing support?

And will anti-virus and other ancillary software companies drop it?

That's business philosophy, if it's not broken, don't fix it. Besides, the kind of money it'd cost, switching over to every new iteration, platform or system, when made available couldn't possibly be cost effective.

I only used IE back in 90s. As soon as Firefox came out, all of us moved to it. Then to Chrome later on.

Of course not.

Edge is now just Chrome, the difference is that it gives your data to MS and Google.

all of us moved to it. Then to Chrome later on.

I tried Chrome briefly and hated it. Then I also worked for a company for almost 3 years where it was the standard.

Delighted to be able to use Firefox full-time now.
