Anyone try out a Statial mouse?
« on: Fri, 18 July 2014, 07:51:06 »
Found out about this while going on a youtube suggested video adventure. Seems pretty interesting, although the base mouse isn't very appealing for me.

Link here for the page.

Looks like a god awful 3D printed monstrosity.  The concept is cool, but it looks fragile and unwieldy.

Make it out of aluminum and I might try one. Unless you fidget a crapload, there's no need for that level of customizeability.
I typed this post on my Slanck. I also developed a stronger, cleaner, easier handwiring method.

I think you're able to, the model is available on shapeways. Bit expensive though if you decide to go all metal.

Looks pretty cool to me. It's a good idea to build off of in any case to use a particular mouse with a good sensor that you're not fond of the shape of.

It might help if you had a large hand and every mouse ever made was too small. I'd never want to use this.

Unless you're the pickiest person in the entire world, you'll probably be able to find a mouse that suits you, and isn't such a hideous monstrosity.

Its cool. I am a bit sceptical about how robust it is. Nothing I would have bought anyway.

3d printing doesn’t seem like a great way to make a part like this: expensive, flimsy, awful surface finish.

(But on the flip side, this is an interesting idea. If it could be a $10–20 part, made out of something a bit sturdier, I could see this being pretty popular. It’s definitely easier to customize an off-the-shelf mouse than completely design a new one from scratch to fit your hand.)

It's a pretty cool concept, but I think I would be too afraid to use it as I use my current mouse. It looks like it's going to fall apart.

I actually loved the look of the mouse, surprised it got so much hate. It's too bad it's on a technically weak mouse, would have loved it to be on a better base.

That looks terrible.  Probably flexes way too much as well.

...unless you're left-handed.

I'm aware of exactly *ONE* left-handed mouse with a decent sensor, but it's Razer. Everything else is either ambidextrous (and mostly nearly flat), or you're paying premium for the shape and even more for the fact that it's a niche product.

Practicality aside, excellent direction and though processes.
Food for thought.

Awesome top piece and design
also a really good practice of 3d printing.
but over a $10 dollar mouse? oh please.

It's too bad he didn't release the files for the model. The hardest work is probably just designing the locking system, everything else just has to be matched up to another mouse.
