Blackfriday 2024
« on: Mon, 18 November 2024, 10:11:27 »

TV:

65" lcds top models small chance of approaching $800ish, Hisense U8N, TCL QM851

1-down from top, TCL QM7 is pretty unbeatable for $700, maybe it'll go another $50 on BF.  Hisense has this weirdness with their ADS pro (IPS based) lcds, which use a different model number, so make sure you look up whether you want high contrast of VA, or, the wider viewing of ADSpro.

75" QM7 is at $1000, so, that's more TV than most people ever need.  Although Tp4 would recommend 85 and 98, there's really no such thing as too big.

Sony, Samsung LCDs not worth considering, they're unremarkable for the price, you might as well get OLED.

65" samsung oled is already at $1000

LG oled, only the G series is worth considering, the B and C are not great value vs the Samsung + LG color fades at higher brightness.

The only consideration for LG, is if you must have the polarizer, it looks blacker in well lit rooms.

LCD advantage = light cannon

OLED advantage = color , wide seating (viewing angle)

Normally, you'd add contrast to oled advantage, but we're actually at the point where the LCDs are getting so good, it's not a make or break difference anymore.

GPU:

Nvidia Raytracing is still not worth it. DLSS = blur, Frame.gen = lag

$700 for 7900xtx possible, but it's looking like now that trump won with the alleged tax (might happen), $730 might be the absolute lowest w/ credit card bonus, or flex pay incentive.

The best "deal" we've seen thus far is $200 for 6700xt, That's pretty much unbeatable, so that's the benchmark.

There's not a whole lot of reasons why you wouldn't buy XTX though.

CPU:

Since there's only 1 chip everyone wants (9800x3d), expect maybe a $25 discount.

As always, GPU first.

Mouse:

Mouse deals are always nice on the China Homebrands.  They've beaten logitech in most ways, even transmission stability.

Anything with PAW 3950, PAW 3395, will be more than adequate.  We've seen them go down to $20-25.

Tp4 really thinks Rapoo is the most sensible mouse, 800mah battery, you virtually never have to charge it using it at 1000hz.

Their latest realtek chipset application lasts 80 hours at 8000hz.

VT1, series still has 2 extra buttons
VT3, series, 1 extra button, bigger palm space (ergo shape).

You will way overpay for hype brands like razer/pulsar/logitech/Zowie/Vexee

Fones:

pixel 8 for $400ish if you just need a fone.

s24 if you take pictures.

This is not something you should waste money on, TV, GPU, CPU, Mouse first.

Do you believe that the items sold on black friday is the same as the items sold during the non-sale time of year? I have looked in the past and found most electronics are black friday specific SKUs and are not the actual product that was reviewed in May and on shelves in July. I am always leery of Black Friday deals because in years past when it was about shoring up your bottom line of the end of year is a lot different than this planned consumer holiday. Seems like a great time to sell OEM "knockoff" goods under the same model name, but a different SKU to squeeze out more profit.

OLED vs LCD at $1000

OLED, beats the LCD in most movie scenes in a light controlled room. Color vibrancy, Off axis uniformity

LCD, versatile, can accommodate all lighting situations. (virtually) no burn-in, carefree PC/Gaming use. Much LARGER than oled for the same price, or go max light cannon for same size at same price.  MUCH brighter than Oled. Motion clarity with BFI engaged is often on par/ slightly better than Oled.

TCL LCD has faster dimming zones than Hisense, resulting in less brightness loss on fast moving bright objects.  Hisense produces a bit more crushed shadow, but preserves more saturation in place of pushing peak backlight output..

Samsung oled has unbeatable color. Software buggy depending on what you want out of it. Much better near black handling (Dithering).

LG's oled Looks-Blacker in a lit environment. Problem at this moment is overprice, the overall image quality is not as good as Samsung.

Okokokok..

News is that TCL is doing wide-angle film next year for their VA panels. (Better viewing angles, reduced native contrast).

That means,  if you guys are going-Larger than 65",  You might want to hold for next year's model.

65 and under, it's not a huge deal'eo.

LG OLED only...

They're ok tvs. PRICE to performance, is way out of line. You're paying for the brand, Samsung QD-OLED has beaten them on the technology.

LG G series is not very bright though, for HDR movies in a dark room that's not a huge problem, but, in real world, when you want to watch a movie during the day,  it just does not have the output of LCDs.

You should own 1 of each I guess, a Samsung QDoled for dark movie watching, and an LCD light cannon for general use.

Seems like a few deals started.

Pretty mid so far.

Rapoo's vt9pro 3398 sensor (3395) mouse is $25. but it was this price last year blackfriday already. This year's model 3950 sensor is $47, better than logitech prices, but nahhhhh. $35 tops.

4070ti super for $730, No way, 7900xtx already expected to be $750-790.

People paying nearly $400 for motherboards, that's so stupid.

These new amd chips use 80 watts, 130 tops.  Max 16 core uses ~200.

You can get a $90 motherboard and it's fine.

Starting BF sales more than a week prior really makes it seem even more trivial. My dinosaur brain gets more excited for the exact same sales, but if it were actually just on 1 day. They have totally deflated the one thing that gave people fomo on BF. I simply cannot find a **** to give.

How is the s&h for a 45lb dumbbell free, and the shipping on a flash drive that weighs as much as a few sheets of paper $4.95?
How can this possibly be true?

The shipping has already been included in the cost of the good. You pay of the shipping whether you see a line item for shipping or not. eBay has the same thing. Would you rather pay $20 for an item and $5 to ship it or $25 for an item with free shipping?

My experience, after selling hundreds of items on eBay, is a resounding conclusion that customers want shipping broken out as a line item, if it makes the "item" appear to be cheaper. Stupid, but true.

As I buyer, I like it included in the price because if I need to return it, I get my shipping back. eBay doesn't refund shipping costs to the buyer (at least in my case). Not great for the seller.

Absolutely. I can't understand why, but I have tested it many times. Now, I just add weight and dimensions and let eBay/PO charge what they will.

Also, I gave up on selling internationally. Outbound shipping prices from the US are atrocious.

I would LOVE to have one of these but I don't think I could afford to keep buying the CO2 cartridges.

The CO2 from them is $20 per 1 pound cartridge

You can buy an adapter for 5lb canisters and fill up at your local restaurant co2 distributor for $15-20 per 5lb.

The Co2 cost isn't the issue.

The issue is if you want branded syrup.

But, if you DIY, it's just sugar and some flavoring.  I don't see why carbonated diy lemonade or sweet tea would do worse than branded.

Basically, all said and done, ~$200 upfront cost, for soda, which costs slightly more than drinking water.

You can basically replace all the water you drink with soda. (not that you should, but cost is negligeble assuming the seal/valves hold up)

I splurged a bit on a nice umbrella. The warranty and loss replacement already almost covers the cost of the wind breaking my umbrella each year. Hope this one lasts more than a few years. It was a toss up between this, or a Mont*Bell, but personally I do not care for the branding on the canopy.

Flydigi BS1 laptop cooler, $50,  if you got a gamer/big laptop, Buy it, this is normally $80-100.

This is the best designed version of forced air laptop coolers. About 10-20C temp difference for gaming laptops. That's a big deal.

Wait wait wait.

There's a new king kooler,  Turbofrost. It's got 4x smaller impellers, same principle.  This is probably less durable, and it's $70 in stead of $50 the the BS1.

It might be worth it if the claims about reduced noise is true.

The idea is, with more impellers, each one can run at a lower rpm for comparable net airflow.

For $20 more, you might as well try it.

Cybr Monday,

So, there was the 7900xtx Red Devil for $840, that's almost sort of a deal. Not really, Microcenter is better $880 for Asus Tuf, if you buy the cpu mobo combos. The Tuf has the largest heatsink.

Although the $760 deal pre-BF was really still better.

From here, not sure, I guess most people got on those 7800xt for 400 and 420. Even though that's NOT A GOOD DEAL AT ALL.

Looks good. You can cut doors on that in 2 panels or 1 panel if you can line it up..

“The reason they call it the American Dream is because you have to be asleep to believe it.” - George Carlin

"Politicians have been proving Carlin right for decades. The GOP and the second Trump Administration seem bent on doing what they’ve always done, sometimes even turning the American Dream into the American Nightmare. Taxes are a major contributor, especially the billions upon billions that the rich and corporations don’t pay. Trump and his fellow Republicans are committed to keeping it that way — and, if their slim Congressional majorities can stick together, to do even more for those who need it the least. As one small example, the overall corporate tax rate could drop to 20%; domestic manufacturers could do even better, ending up with an effective corporate rate of 15%. The federal tax code is famous (and infamous) for its huge handouts to those with the highest incomes, the most egregious being the cap on Social Security taxes."

Now that we're moving into Christmas,  Keep an eye out for TVs to drop 200-300  $  It happens quite often. Even before superbowl sales.

It seems GPU might not come down much right now as there's a frenzy of people building 9800x3ds.

WHICH IS NOT a good deal,

7800x3d sold for $470 with motherboard + ram microcenter bundle. Now it's $600.

9800x3d with mobo + ram right now will run you at least $750.

I was at a Microcenter on Black Friday, they were not buying 9800x3d or 7800x3d, they were buying EVERYTHING. Every department had a huge line for help and this was late night, not even early morning.

Tariffs are looming, a system that cost $2000 today will cost AT LEAST $2500 in a month or two, possibly a LOT more..

Edit, It's not just electronics, Hyunday sales trpled last month, at least for the Ionic 5. Meanwhile Tesla sales slowed. Strangely enough (/s) Tesla is the car manufacturer least impacted by tariffs. This is also why Elon doesn't mind losing the EV credit, losing that hurts other companies far worse than Tesla who dominates electric car sales.

Trump is playing checkers while the public plays tic tac toe all the while Elon plays chess and we're all pawns.

Some thoughts on 9800x3d prices.

Considering the previous 7800x3d +mobo +ram bundle @ $470.  The current $600 combo is 27% above the normal price.

If you try to go 9800x3d, then it's 35-40% above.

Hard to predict tariffs, you guys think they can go that high?

Walmart PC deal's blowing up.  Cyberpower.

$1000, for 7900gre + 7700x + 32gb ram + 2tb HDD.

10% faster than 7800xt.
