People don't actually game like this, right? ...Right?
« on: Tue, 06 October 2020, 08:21:38 »
Any closer to the screen and he'd be able to kiss it

But does anyone really play like this and if so why? Your view of the entire monitor is compromised since your eye's focus is so narrow, pushing the rest to almost peripheral vision, and if pixel density was an issue why not change displays?

Not sure about the video but in the screen shot he's clearly just trying to to do a Captcha on 1440p or 4K screen.

Seriously some of those images are way too small and low res and on a higher res screen they're insanely small and hard to see.

You should watch how CS:GO pros play, it's similar to that - it's nuts

Trade health for <E-sp0artz Gl0ry> ..

Can't say it's wrong. Although there arn't THAT many players who get that close.

You really need to blame the developers.   They should just allow tighter FOV options.

I follow a handful of pro gamers and a ton of streamers who game. Never seen anyone with their screen that close.  It does make more sense if he’s on a smaller, 1080 panel to get 240+Hz.  I don’t know why you would intentionally put more things out of focus and into your peripheral.  Maybe if you play sniper and don’t use any kind of game awareness other than angles?

I’m going to move my monitor really close tonight and see what I think. I usually play at just over arms length on a 27inch/1440p monitor.  We’ll see.

There are cases in FPSes where you're hunting a flicker. because they're only a few pixels wide.

Again, this is not typically an advantage,   but if you want every sliver of it, well, you do crazy stuffs.

Back in the Thicc CRT days, people had hands go behind the monitor, and they were only 10-12 inch away eye to screen

yeah, at my age, I'll be moving farther away just to see the screen without glasses. (finally had to admit defeat when I almost needed to fully extend my arms to focus on my phone)

But hey, if that gets you those extra FPS, more power to ya.

I think a 21" CRT would be even more impressive. Especially if they can get their arm all the way around them.

The bigger the CRT the higher the odds of Brain cancer,  getting really close to CRTs you get a microdose of Xrays.

Is this a normal position for gaming

So you're saying one should sit with the tip of their nose touching the CRT to watch it properly lol.

Tp4 got dat gear VR , can't use it, eye pain after 20 mins.

Same it was a big hit. I was on a QA team who were doing Oculus stuff and had to jump to another project because the headset ****ed up my eyes so much. No nausea or motion sickness at all, but my eyes felt like they were under pressure and about to explode out of my skull :(

Haven't used VR in years since then, I hope they fix that issue.

Oh Jesus Christ no I’d assume most people wouldn’t , though I have to say after a while if it’s getting especially intense I can often catch myself leaving closer and closer in, though whatever that guy is doing is in another level entirely
