Advice for an aspiring enthusiast
« on: Wed, 30 December 2020, 21:15:12 »
So i just got into the hobby this past month ive been injured from work and was looking to find a hobby i could do at my desk besides gaming because over time video gaming just get flat out old.. well i stumbled onto this hobby and then recieved a Drop CTRL board as an anniversary present which i modded the stabs and lubed up the switches my results were actually fantastic for my first time everything turned out great BUT... now i need more and i want to do a full custom build but i lack the hardware knowledge that i need. i really like the tofu cases and fancy the 65% layout i saw the rama kara that ends tomorrow but i really don't like the HHKB layout as i do play games and losing the bottom control key and directional keys is just not what im looking for. all of this being said i want to build a keyboard off of a tofu case but have no clue what PCB to get or plate most of the hot swap PCB's on kbd fans are all sold out and have a waiting list a mile long. i was just wondering if anyone knows any other websites i could go to and what i need because im at a loss and most people just say buy a kit but those are all sold out seems like instantly..

Kbdfans and KP republic are one of the few websites that make keyboard kits and the surge of Tfue friends and other new friends joining this hobby has drastically increased the demand, so you better just keep an eye and order fast as possible if its something you want. Most of the kits used to be in stock for weeks back in the day

This hobby is about waiting on something for months to be able to buy it now. You don't want to know how long it takes for a keyboard to go from IC to GB to your hands lol.

You jumped in with both feet and getting anything beyond or equal to what you have takes effort even in good times.
Right now you have a perfect storm of things going against you, covid, stimulus, Black Friday, Christmas... Inventory was wiped out early Novemeber 2019, yes, last year, and it has yet to return to normal levels. It's not going to get back to normal for another 6-14 months.

If you want anything between now and then, like SUP said, you're going to have to fight for it. This applies a bunch of other stuff, not just keyboards.

welll, when you ask a smoker, what's the best policy, they'll tell you don't start, soon you'll be on 2 packs a day, or worse, off the street corner trying to score dr00gs.
