Matte all the way for me, for plastic at least. For metal it depends, both can be nice. Can vary depending on the material in fact.

what about an "even" shine on ALL the caps.. vs the splotchy shine due to normal wear..

I have not seen that, but I am pretty sure that if someone produced "shinny" keys, they would lose ths shinny effect over time, or it would get uneven.. Hard to say without seeing it.

LOL, I don't think shiny keys ever "de-shine" because your fingers are oily and sandpaper-y

The Oiliness may be the only problem with shiny

So I've used Das Keyboard follow by Filco.  Have to say for casing, matte all the way.  It is much easier to maintain.

As for keycaps, I'll admit while shiny keycaps looks horrible, but it does feel easier on your finger  :P

I like matte but glossy black is a disaster in almost any case. Except that I painted my mailbox glossy black, 3 coats, and it looks awesome after a year!

I'm for "rough" satin/matte texture like on KBC PBT caps

I prefer matte.

Note that in my head its pronounced "matt-te" which is decidedly wrong.

I have a glossy black DAS and a glossy black Mathias. I don't know how Mathias did it but it doesn't collect finger prints and dust as much as the DAS.

I like glossy when done right!

Otherwise - matte.

hmm.........

This is great for cases, but on keys, I don't think the grease repelling feature would last as long, because whatever coating they used will get "rubbed off" quite quickly by dry fingers.

In my experience, the shinier or smoother the keys are, the more they "drag" on my fingertips. I type very lightly for the most part, and when I use ABS caps it seems like the fingertips get "stuck" for a split second on each key, slowing me down by that much. I almost hate that I discovered PBT caps - typing on anything else frankly sucks now.
i type, therefore i geekhack

I don't know, for some reason, I really like the filco surfaces on their stock keys and also the matte but semi-smooth finish on the Ducky Shine stock keys.  The enamel coating thing feels good, and it doesn't drag much. I really don't like printed pad ones though where you can feel each legend.  Feels really nasty.
