Help! 1st time mech kb wannabe
« on: Fri, 05 April 2013, 23:01:53 »
Hello all,
Firstly, thanks for this forum, it's a great source of information.

I have been researching a new keyboard but without a local showroom to go and try out kb's, I'm confused.
Would anyone suggest the closest to . . .
Cherry brown - for less noise
Tenkeyless - not mini
Backlit
USB hub
Good quality
Available in Australia
Use will be for typing - I won't be gaming with this board

Thanks

Ducky DK9087 Shine II.
CM Storm QuickFire TK, but it may have some subjective disadvantages, comparing to Ducky.

BTW, why so many bells and whistles? Are you trying to use keyboard in room with broken lighting and you don't know how to touch type? Mining helmet could help :D But you had better fix lighting (working in dark room is not good for eyes) and learn how to touch type.
White Filco Ninja Majestouch-2 Tenkeyless FKBN87M/EFW2 (Cherry MX Brown), CM Storm QuickFire Rapid SGK-4000-GKCL1-US (Cherry MX Blue)

Mining helmet ... Hmmmmm? Do they do a USB version? ;D
Thanks for the ideas. I probably don't need the backlight , I'm an 'almost touch typist' probably 80% of the keyboard.

If we ignore the backlight how would you compare a ducky TKL with a Filco Majestouch?
thanks again

Both are top quality. Both have theirs admirers. They have different stabilizers. Some people like Cherry style stabilizers on Ducky, others like Costar stabilizers more. Some non-backlit Ducky comes with PBT keycaps.
I think either Ducky DK9087 Shine II if you would like backlit, or two times cheaper CM Storm Quickfire Rapid otherwise.

I like keyboards and case modding.  Everything about a computer should be silent -- except the KEYBOARD!

If you don't need backlighting I would choose the Filco because I really don't like Cherry stabilizers, but that's a personal thing.

Thanks for the info. I've ordered the Ducky Tenkeyless, plus I've ordered a set of o-rings. The board is a blue LED with Brown switches.
Cheers

The only reason not to get the 700 is the stupid spacebar stem alignment. However, I think they ship with a pretty nice set of thick PBTs
