I'm curious why it is 2560x1080 instead of 2560x1440

IPS > all other monitors

I hate using my laptop, the screen sucks so hard compared to my desktop IPS monitor. I also recommend Dell, they make excellent monitors and have an amazing return policy.

I had one dead pixel in the top left of my screen, called late Tuesday night and I had a replacement monitor Wednesday afternoon. I had 2 weeks to ship back the old one and this cost nothing for me. Amazing.

Dell's customer service is phenomenal.  And their monitors are always among the best around.  I've lost count of how many posts I've seen that say "Dell quality at a fraction of the price."  Dell sets the standard others aspire to, and I actually think their prices are decent, considering how well made their monitors are.

Almost makes up for the sheer crappiness of their keyboards.  :-)

I recommend this monitor to everyone who will be using it for Gaming and watching films.

Films fantastic...

Gaming?...errrrrrrr... not so much.. most games don't take this monitor's aspect ratio into account, it looks "weird"

But... that's a fixable thing if you use custom fov.. it's just finicky and doesn't work with every game.

Also, if you need adobe rgb space, this monitor only covers 70%, just a reminder as always..

I'm playing games every day since I got it and I've only encountered few games that won't accept the Aspect Ratio. You just need to tweak the FOV like everyone else to suit your needs. It's obviously it isn't a standard Aspect Ratio but most of the games just adapt to it right without problems.

There are few games that doesn't accept it but then you just have to play at 1920x1080 and stick to a 23" monitor size because of the black bars on the sides. I know that because I went from a Dell U2311h to this Dell U2913WM and the vertical physical size is exactly the same.

I think it's worth the effort even if there are some games that won't accept the Aspect Ratio.

I was able to see this monitor in person at a Microcenter.  It is so incredibly weird that I don't ever think I could get used to it vs. two monitors but this price is pretty good for it.

IPS > all other monitors
I hate using my laptop, the screen sucks so hard compared to my desktop IPS monitor.
I would agree that IPS > TN, but both look exceedingly horrible if the backlight isn't up to my high standards. The apple cinema/thunderbolt display (for example) I can see flickering, which is annoying. I can get trinitron monitors for free that can do 85Hz or higher, so until I find a decent flat panel that doesn't flicker on me, I'll stick with my CRT's.

You can also get laptops with IPS displays. I dislike my laptop too. (It flickers, but not as badly. much more of an eyestrain than my CRT, though)

21:9 is a very interesting aspect ratio. I'm used to 4:3, so any widescreen is a bit of a change, but I thought 10:16 or 9:16 was more common. Is this a more movie aspect ratio?

Dorkvorder you must have super eyes..  LCDs don't flicker because the crystals don't change fast enough.. or you might've been looking at a floormodel that's burning out.

The 21:9 is for widescreen movies.. although... IMO, standard 1080p monitor is better for that, because 1:1 scaling is technically ALWAYS best.

It's the backlight, I'm pretty sure. On a related note, my flicker threshold is about 70-80 Hz, depending on lighting conditions)
