White spots on keycap, should I make a return from the shop?
« on: Mon, 19 August 2013, 05:05:28 »
I just bought this cm quickfire xt keyboard from the local store last saturday.

Just then I found that there are white spots on the back of the keycaps. Almost every keycaps have it.

I googled this issue and people suggested they are molding point and it is normal...... http://www.overclock.net/t/1376319/new-filco-keycap-issue

I stole their image because they are exactly the same problem.

Should I demand the shop a return/exchange?

Do you type with keyboard upside down?  :p

Almost every keyboard has it.
If you hate it, maybe you can get a Topre. They have the molding marks underneath the keycap

Sprue marks - perfectly normal.  Most visible on boards with backlighting if you turn the board around with the backlighting on.

QFT. It's sprues. Present on every single keyboard I've ever owned except those I've taken sandpaper or a file to in a fit of 'must be perfect.'

that's normal.

But, you should return the board anyway because backlit boards are stupid..

The paint on the keys will wear off eventually,  and you will NOT be able to find replacement backlit caps..

IF you say, "well I will not care about backlit eventually".... then you can skip ahead today and stop caring.. and get yourself some more useful gear.

I just noticed - I even have sprue marks on the backs of the keycaps on my Model M.

You can get at least half a dozen sets of backlight friendly keycaps now, as well as completely transparent.
