So what's something you would say on GH that would make other people think you're crazy?

Anything about lube and stems, really.

You probably shouldn't talk about how good black stems are with a generous amount of lube outside of GH. Unless you're into that.

So it's not appropriate to say in order for the motion to be smooth blacks take more lube than whites?

"Hey man, how much should I apply to the stem? What about around the stem? Should I just use a brush or my hands and gloves? How much lube should I use? What kind of lube do you guys like?"

"I already have 5 keyboards, but I've just joined group buys for 2 more.  I may need to sell some of my 20 sets of keycaps to compensate a bit."
"My springs are gold, and my switches have pink stickers under them.  I know you can't really see either under keycaps, but I know they are there!"

Gaming / usual hardware forum: increasing keyboard size to include macro keys, LCD stat displays, wrist rests, logos.
GH: min-maxing keyboard sizes down to 40% with as many function layers as possible.  Next step: typing entirely on a keypad.

And none of my friends understand the purpose of a heavy aluminum/steel keyboard.  They've seen my LZ-GH, and the perpetual question is "WHYYYY???"

I've already been thinking of ways to make the qazpad's 31 keys type like a regular keyboard

I like Thorpe!

(Try that even on other keyboard forums.)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

"I hate Blacks"

This.  So much this.  Every time I type something like that I think about how it must look out of context.  I actually have avoided typing anything about blacks without saying MX Blacks for that exact reason.

Reminds me of this video:

Also, discussing the benefits of cream cheese and greens over, say, coffee. Took me ages when I first joined to get what CCnG meant.

Any talk of cutting a keyboard in half, modifying a keyboard, integrating a pointing device.

I know a girl is interested in me when she is genuinely listening to my keyboard prattling. Yes, it's prattling.

Dude, this keycap (hold up Gasmask) probably cost as much as your keyboard.

And THIS keycap (hold up random CC) probably cost more than your whole computer!

"I'm so happy I just won a Clack draw! Now I can buy a single, ugly (to some) unergonomic keycap for only 20 dollars!"

It's not nearly as weird as the lube and stems part, or the colour part, but it will get you some weird looks imo.

Just the fact that forums exist strictly for keyboard enthusiasts.  Hell that people get this enthusiastic about keyboards in general.  But in my line of work I think I have used a keyboard twice in 5 years.  And both times was when the foreman was having issues navigating Microsoft Outlook.

A keyboard is the tool of my trade.  My keyboard, mouse, and monitor are my interface to my computer, which I use almost all day long for both work and entertainment.  I spend more time touching my keyboard than I spend touching my wife.  Why on earth wouldn't I get the best equipment possible?

By all means I don't mean it that way just that the majority of the people I interact with on a face to face basis only see keyboards as needing to be $5 from WalMart.

But at least it is a lot more understandable coming from someone in your profession that uses a keyboard to earn a paycheck everyday than from someone that turns wrenches for a paycheck.

That's true. I bet most of your co-workers are surprised you play lots of video games too. :P

That actually not so much.  We actually have an Ironworker on our crew right now that used to play WoW with a Nostoromo.  And a surprisingly large number of the newer members in our union game so some extent.  I actually read the average age of an MMO gamer is up to 32.

The higher average age thing….
I bet that's due to the quality of the games/video being superior to 'back in the day', much more realistic and interesting, and the fact that more people are in the ranks that grew up gaming….not letting it go. No reason to quit with the higher quality, easier to game online, etc.

I don't game.

My dad's boss  "interested in keyboards" but I doubt he likes mechs and is just interested in keyboards as input devices

Apparently here it makes sense for someone to want money from the community for their wares while bashing the same community on other internet sites.

I realized that we are almost halfway through 2014 and I have not re-posted this:

Quote from: Anonymous Coward
I feel ashamed when I see a grown up man say things like "...a sharp drop at the actuation point at around 2/3 - 3/4 way down the..."

Don't you have anything better to do with your life than yammering away on the minute details of a keyboard? I have both an M and an F that I picked up at goodwill for nothing 15 years ago and for the first time yesterday I googled about them and found 'enthusiast' (here an euphemism for retarded) websites where idiots bounce off the walls telling each other about the orgasms per second they have when using them. And 'using' is an overstatement with 90% of those morons. Most are busy opening them, cleaning the last atom of dirt off them, 'restoring' what doesn't need any restoration, 'upgrading', thinking of names for them, 'modding', taking photos, showing them off, in general jerking off about the clicky sensations and the superb accuracy of their typing and other general uber-dorkiness. What I never found there was anything useful to do with them, ie. actually program a computer.

Go type 'messenger lectures' in youtube and see what smart people look like, then kill yourself disassembling your One True Keyboard(TM) for the nth time and swallowing all the buckling springs.

And then mail one of your remaining model Fs to me.
"It's 110, but it doesn't feel it to me, right. If anybody goes down. Everybody was so worried yesterday about you and they never mentioned me. I'm up here sweating like a dog. They don’t think about me. This is hard work.
Do you feel the breeze? I don't want anybody going on me. We need every voter. I don't care about you. I just want your vote. I don't care."
