Oh wow. Plate mounted? Nice, that's a big improvement over the older 3000 boards then.
Plate mounting isn't necessarily an improvement. PCB mount vs plate mount is preference.
I partly agree with you, but in the case of the G80-3000 there is so much PCB flex and lack of PCB support it's hard to imagine someone liking the feeling. My KBT Pure on the other hand felt just fine without a plate. Could just be that I'm a "plate mounted" kind of guy and the Pure was stiff enough to feel similar (haven't noticed a massive change in feel since installing an aluminium plate).
Would you guys mind elaborating what's so bad about doing this? Please don't punch me.
He puts so much oil in there that there's a layer of oil to dampen the slider hitting the bottom of the case... it's just... yuck. IMO it'll drain out due to capillary effect and you'll end up with the click back again. Also, why try to get rid of the click, when the bottom out sound is louder anyway? There are better ways of doing this without filling your board with oil (small amounts of thick grease, ErgoWhites or Clears / Browns). At least that's my take on it.
