Seems like an interesting idea. Now that my Das is essentially retired, I wonder if I should experiment myself with this.

Those MX 3.0 boards look like absolute trash.

They are actually very comfy to type on.  Also unlike most of the market they offer a 2 year warranty instead of the standard 1 year.

If you want a mechanical keyboard that's not nearly two inches thick - it's the best option.

I typed on one at a show in SF, it's not for me.

And when it has slowly drained out of the switch by capillary action, you'll have clicky Blues again... Great mod! At least he didn't use brake fluid

The case looks a bit stiffer than the G80-3000's I recently received, but I suspect the PCB flexes about the same. Gives quite a mushy and "cheap" feeling IMHO. They are not exactly Filco's.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

The G80-3850 actually has a metal plate just like a Filco hence why the hate and misinformation about an actual Cherry Product?

Oh wow. Plate mounted? Nice, that's a big improvement over the older 3000 boards then. I find the low profile caps interesting. Don't know what they were thinking with the Caps Lock switch / stem placement, though. Not compatible with their own stepped OR standard centre mount caps lock keycaps.

Back on topic, seems like this guy would like Whites with Blue springs. Is there a name for those yet?

that's not gonna drain, it'll probably just roll to the bottom and stay there, until you shake the board..

They're usually referred to as ergo-whites. They'd be my favorite MX switch if they would click with any sort of consistency...

Man there's grease all over the place. That board would be disgusting under the caps if you did the whole thing and used it for a couple months. At least the clumsy way he did it. I do prefer the sound but wonder how they feel.

I think it's because in the long run the oil will collect dirt and dust and the keys will get sticky, which will also be hard to clean.

But I could be mistaken.

"4 to 5 drops" in each switch!

Are you f_cking kidding me?

At least power steering fluid comes in a big bottle.

Plate mounting isn't necessarily an improvement. PCB mount vs plate mount is preference.

I partly agree with you, but in the case of the G80-3000 there is so much PCB flex and lack of PCB support it's hard to imagine someone liking the feeling. My KBT Pure on the other hand felt just fine without a plate. Could just be that I'm a "plate mounted" kind of guy and the Pure was stiff enough to feel similar (haven't noticed a massive change in feel since installing an aluminium plate).

He puts so much oil in there that there's a layer of oil to dampen the slider hitting the bottom of the case... it's just... yuck. IMO it'll drain out due to capillary effect and you'll end up with the click back again. Also, why try to get rid of the click, when the bottom out sound is louder anyway? There are better ways of doing this without filling your board with oil (small amounts of thick grease, ErgoWhites or Clears / Browns). At least that's my take on it.

That's one of the reasons I enjoy MX Blues so much. That and the lower key weight.

I wonder if the liquid doesn't pool at the bottom and prevent the switch from going all the way down. Sort of a hydraulic keyswitch mod.

If he was trying to eliminate the click, why purchase a keyboard with clicky switches to begin with? Sheesh.

Just so everyone is on the same page, the "jailhouse blue" mod is by far the best way to solve the problem.

If anybody would pull my caps with a pci case slot metal piece, I would kill him. Where is that keypuller?? By spoiling so much oil also around the switch, why not drown the whole keyboard in PSF? A lot quicker :P

Someone correct me but I think power steering fluid is hygroscopic.  It attracts water.  Not good eats.

Not mistaken at all. We just witness the murder of a MX Keyboard by slow poisoning.
This board will be quickly developing asthma and will soon choke on dust.
