Ducky Mini spacebar feels stuck/sticky

Hello!

I recently got a ducky mini keyboard and it's great except the spacebar feels like it's sticky/stuck half the time.

i pulled the spacebar out and it seems that there's a sticky substance on where the cherry stabilizers are can this be due to overlubing? how can i fix this? i want to type on this keyboard so badly, but the spacebar feels stuck/sticky..i guess what i want to  know is how do i go about decreasing the abount of grease in the stabilizers? would i have to do some desoldering?

The lube shouldn't make it sticky. It's most likely just the cherry stabilizers being cherry stabilizers. Also check that the spacebar cap is on all the way (all 3 inserts are in correctly).

Looks to me like the right side is lower than the left, so maybe the left insert isn't in all the way? This happens with cherry stabs if the inserts and keycap don't align well.

I see. so do i just push down on the left side more or something?

I don't know for sure if that is the issue you're having, but I would make sure the keycap is as far down as it goes on both sides.

Have you tried the tape trick? I was having the same issue with my WASD v2 board and my Ducky PBTs. I put a little piece of tape on the outside stabilizer prongs and it worked like a charm. I wish my WASD board was like my Poker II where I didn't have to worry about that dumb stabilizer bar.

it's MOST likely due to slightly warped space bar..

hit up ebay for an aluminum space bar.. they're cnc-ed and most likely super straight.. and they look super c00l

Try removing the space bar and placing it on a completely flat surface.

See if it sits flat or whether one end is higher.

This is a common problem with space bars, especially PBT space bars.  Although I believe this one is ABS, however it is still a possibility.

It does seem a bit warped..

I have a spacebar from my cm quickfire keyboard that i used to test if it was a spacebar problem. it still feels a little bit sluggish. i'll post a video of it later..

would it be that the cherry stabilizers are less tolerant to space bar deformities?

Also, I dont know if i would want to get an aluminum spacebar.. aren't they a bit expensive? does it feel significantly better than a plastic one?

I'm afraid that I don't know what the tape trick is. I googled it and I couldn't find any details  about it.

Could you maybe post a link or go further into what you are describing?

That is warped, although I have seen worse.  Cherry stabilisers are sensitive to keycap shape, and especially for the longer keycaps such warping can cause the issues you are experiencing.

As ynrozturk suggested - can you try a different (non-warped) space bar?

If a different straight space bar works, you could try contacting the vendor to see if they can provide you with a non-warped space bar, especially if the keyboard is still under warranty, which I'm guessing it would be.

Or you can try heating the space bar with a hair dryer, or in very hot water, placing it on a very flat surface, and weighing it down with a book or so to keep it flat.  However if something goes wrong with this process the vendor might not accept the keyboard back as a return.

A matter of preference really, cherry stabilizers are pretty much perfect when they're clipped and have some lube applied.  Cherry stabilizers are also much easier to swap keycaps with.  While costar stabilizers do provide a crisp key depression on larger keys, the rattle they sometimes gave off always annoyed me a bit, although it can be eliminated pretty easily with some grease.  Sorry to hear about your spacebar, I hope you can either level it off or get a replacement one.

i contacted the vendor and he said he'd be able to ship a spare spacebar, however, it would be a ducky shine 2 spacebar instead of a ducky mini one..

which i dont really mind.. much..

but i'll post a video later with a straighter spacebar when i get more time. ><

So I got the Ducky Shine 2 space bar in the mail. The vendor actually sent me TWO!! So I got two free spacebars~.

Anyways, the spacebar is better now, it is less sticky but it still kind of feels weird..  I can't put my finger on it. Maybe I'm just not used to cherry stabs? :{

The space bar is great! I mean, it has this spartan looking duck on it instead of the duck chick, but at least it isn't sticky~

Cherry stabilisers can feel mushy if you are not used to them.

If you don't like how the stabilisers feel on bottom out (what some describe as a "mushy" feel), you can always clip the little bendy tabs (clip mod).

I prefer Cherry stabs over Costar for a number of reasons:

1. Easier to swap caps and less fiddly in general.
2. Less rattly.
3. More forgiving of keycap thickness / internal shape.
