which UV bulb for retr0bright treatement?
« on: Sat, 07 March 2015, 12:00:42 »
I have been reading a lot of articles about the retr0bright (retr0brite/retrobright) process and they all mention that you can use either natural sunlight or a UV bulb.  The problem is that none of these articles ever say which bulb to use.  Can someone provide a link to one they have personally used that worked?  What about this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Exo-Terra-Repti-Glo-Fluorescent-Terrarium/dp/B00101GDIG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1425751009&sr=8-2&keywords=uv+bulb

Can I just screw this into a desk lamp socket and then suspend it over the container I have my plastic pieces in?

Here's a different form factor:

http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-ReptiSun%C2%AE-Fluorescent-18-Inch/dp/B0009YJ3BE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425755372&sr=8-1&keywords=reptisun

Or would something like this work better:

http://www.amazon.com/American-Black-24Blb-Blacklight-Fixture/dp/B0002F5544/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1425751559&sr=8-20&keywords=uv+light

Either of those lights would be fine. You could also go the cheaper route and use some of that free sunlight

Yes, I realize sunlight is an option.  The problem is that it can be very hit or miss this time of year (mostly miss over the last couple weeks here), plus I live in an apartment with a covered balcony that doesn't really get much sunlight due to the building's orientation.  An indoor setup with a UV lamp would be much more reliable.
