Would you use Teleportation/Transporter
« on: Wed, 30 March 2016, 04:24:19 »
Are we still ourselves after transport ?

Apparently, there is also such a thing as  Transporter-Phobia.

If you take Star Trek teleporters, they disassemble you and convert you into a "matter stream" which can pass through solid objects (and thus is probably not matter in the conventional sense, or is transmitted via some other means).

The atoms are then reassembled at the other end.

Chemically and physically you would be, theoretically, identical.

If you have a soul, where does it exist?  In the brain?  In the heart?  Generally as a life force which animates your body?

The thought occurs that when your body is disassembled for teleportation, there is nowhere for your soul to exist in relation to your body, which has ceased to exist at that point, and so you would die.

Based on this, I would be somewhat wary.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

The trek transporter can also take your pants off for you.. hahahaha

but if you're this level of lazy,  Why not just teleport the poop out of you.

ah yes you assume that I'm actually wearing pants in the first place though

that would probably mean I'd have to insert the teleportation device into my rectum to target just the poop, which may be difficult depending on how advanced (small) the tech is

That's the thing. You shouldn't need to teleport yourself, you need to teleport stuff to you, like cofee, beer, and b**ches.

I made coffee and it has been sitting at the coffee maker for like.. 15 minutes. This would be awesome. Can it be used to send the ladies away?  :))

Yeah, I would.

Easy and quick travelling, why not? I'd teleport my self down to the store so I could get some ice cream.  ^-^

So many ways I could save on time... I could teleport my self inside a bank vault, bam rich.

It's my understanding that basically none of the molecules currently comprising my entire being are "original". So why should I be concerned that a teleportation device might expedite this turnover rate to be near instantaneous? If my body and the chemical makeup of every single component is identical, that's cool with me.

Well, if we have teleporters..  it can be assumed there's no more need for money.. what's the point.. Life would be so efficient that a collection of THINGS would be useless, leading to the dissolution of the collectors attitude..

They'll make the transporter so expensive you need money to buy that first. It will be only for the elite. Like personal planes and personal islands.

That's because Star Wars was the past, Star Trek is the future...
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
