I got some a while ago that were pretty good.  Of course, much more than $10.  They work well when I'm swimming, so that's a bonus.

Razer Hydra

bought it on a whim for $40 off woot.com. sat in my closet for years.

Although I might actually not regret it, if eBay prices are any indication :-o

I bought a Nintendo 3DS. A year following my purchase I had maybe played two hours of one game, Pokemon Y. Fortunately I had purchased it used and managed to sell it without sustaining much of a loss. I truly wanted to be interested in handhelds again but the 3DS couldn't rekindle the flame that my Gameboy Color had once given me.

Whether or not you like handhelds is subjective. Disinterest or lack of certain features doesn't in itself make something stupid. Plenty of adults like them, no need to disparage that portion of the audience.

That's unfortunate that you lost your PSP. Get a couple of wired controllers and you can play Mario 64 on the PC.

Oh there is definitely an emulator mini-itx pc in the works :)) I'll come home from work and relax with some Nintendo 64 games and that giant awkward n64 controller

At the time I always thought I'd regret spending $400 building a custom keyboard, but since building this board over 4 years ago it has pretty much been the only board I've used and it's actually saved me money in the long run from purchasing many other boards in search of perfect finger satisfaction. People laugh or stare (outside of GH of course) when I say I built my board for $400, but to me it has been a more than worthy purchase.

Lubed and stickered panda + ergo clear TKL with an internally stabilized aluminum case, hid, and some other stuff. There's pics on here somewhere, it's got a red case. It would actually be much cheaper (by about $100) to build these days, the mech board community has come a really long way in 4 years.

Sounds like a great board! And I agree, spending upwards of $400 on a keyboard sounds crazy at the time. But if you spread that $400 over the course of 5+ years with hundreds (even thousands) of hours of use each year, the cost seems much more reasonable.

That's a good idea, I have a ITX laying about that I haven't used. It's a AMD E-350 APU. Without a TV it's been sitting in a box, maybe I can shove it into a old 360 that I have around...

I used to be a PCMR scrub like you for two or three weeks, but then I saw the hypocrisy within the group towards Linux and left. But then again a wise person said "Linux is not PCMR because we're not limited to PC's" so maybe I wasn't PCMR in the first place.

Back to the topic, the backup mouse I'm using right now(NGS Evo Pro V2) is terrible. It sometimes freezes and I have to replug it, and the scroll wheel broke. Remember, even if you don't plan to use it too much, buy your mice from a good brand and don't just take the cheapest option because of the cost.

The increasing power of Massdrop WILL kill the community group buys - don't come crying to me after it happens when you're too stupid to see it now. Join me in saving the community!

wha....... what laptop do you have..

I have a few sitting around though i have not bothered to update in awhile since honestly nothing a laptop can do is something my tablet can't that i require. (With the tablet having the benefit of built in LTE) and since i always prefer using a mechanical keyboard it's more space conscious and less to carry doing so with a tablet than carrying a laptop and a mech board.

As of moment between my wife and i we have

Thinkpad R61i
Latitude D620
Latitude D430

And my wife has a Zenbook 13.3 (The cheaper blackish one with the intel Core M) that her job has provided her

None of these machines have been updated for a long long time (outside the zenbook since it's for work and we didn't buy it)

For one simple reason.

There is nothing i need to do on a laptop i can't do on my iPad mini with LTE using less space and being able to use my pok3r on the go at the same time.  My mobile computing usage basically consists of the following.

E-mail (Both work and personal)
General surfing
Ordering for work/looking at potential new products
Watching the occasional movie or TV show from my Remote media server or Netflix etc

None of this requires the use of a full laptop nor the bulk of one (even the 13.3 zenbook seems very bulky compared to an iPad mini and pok3r honestly) and the Battery life is great at that, plus since my wife uses an iPhone i can respond to her texts without even needing to take out my phone.

I have thought several times about buying a newer laptop for myself but simply put for my needs and usage i see little use to the investment and the one time we had bought slightly newer machines in 2009-2010 when my wife bought a MBP and i bought a newer ASUS (The exact model name is eluding me atm) we ended up selling them both off because nether of us really ever used them at all and they sat in their laptop bags collecting dust.  In fact i still have and use the STM bag we bought simply for carrying my Pok3r and iPad mini and misc other things now.

And when i'm at home i'd obviously rather use my desktop.

So anytime i ever consider looking at a newer laptop now i always stop and think to myself what can it do that *i* will actually use it for my tablet can not and i can't think of any single thing and just buy a newer tablet again instead.

Sheesh, no wonder you don't want to use your laptops..

C2D, and Core M..

You need to experience a newer 2.5ghz and above CPU + SSD on mobile.. It's way way way more responsive..

Ipads are quite sluggish, especially with adblocker turned on, and you can't block scripts with no script..

To be fair if you only spent 200$ on a tablet one could say the same about the tablet as that's fairly low end tablet at that price range a 200$ tablet is basically for watching movies.  And honestly it's nothing to do with the specs of the laptop my Desktop has an i5,16GB of DDR3 multiple SSD's and a GTX 970(So it;'s not that i haven't experienced newer specs i have i just find them wasted and useless in mobile form)...but away from home i don't DO anything that requires that sort of power at all it's simply a massive waste of money.  The iPads are in no way sluggish honestly for the tasks i mentioned above while maintaining good battery life and a small form factor.  There is simply nothing even a top of the line Zenbook can offer me that i need for my own mobile computing needs.  When i am home i can justify the horsepower since i do a lot of gaming.  On the go i only have needs that honestly a netbook with an ATOM processor could meet.....so why spend on an ultrabook what my iPad can do perfectly fine while at the same time allowing the use of a 60% mech using FAR less space than using it combined with an ultrabook?  It just sounds like a giant waste of money to me honestly.  I used to spend quite a bit on laptops back in the day and to their credit the ones i have after all this time still work well (Though have since been relegated to Torrent servers more or less).

I just simply can't name one SINGLE thing an ultrabook with an i7 and an SSD can do that *i* could make use of that my iPad can't do with my pok3r using a smaller size footprint and less overall bulk.  It just makes no sense to me to spend that sort of money on power that won't be used in anyway shape or form.  It sort of reminds me of my brother in law who bought an 1800$ laptop but all he does is surf facebook respond to E-mails and play browser games....talk about throwing away money without a single good reason.  I'm all about spending money in places i know i will get my moneys worth...Good keyboards, good desktop, good microphone etc.  But i'm also about being practical and spending that sort of money on a machine that really offers me no practical benefit just makes no sense to me personally.

Should my needs ever change i could see considering something with beefier specs but at moment it would literally just be throwing money away as every time i know i will just grab my tablet and a 60% mech instead.

You don't need a Ferrari if all you ever do is drive 2 miles a day to the grocery store.

$200 on an Android tablet should get you something pretty decent.

As for the notebook, this kind of falls in with what we discussed in the netbook love thread, some of us just prefer small laptops, but the netbooks were just too darn slow.  It just so happens that there was a bunch of 11.5in laptops made with Core I series processors (3rd gen seems the most common). Most lack the battery life of a tablet, but are half the weight of normal laptops (just over 2 pounds), and can run Windows like a champ, especially if you swap in an ssd and more ram (most can do 16gigs DDR3), something many of us have laying around at this point. The best part though is parts are cheap and they are easy to repair compared to a tablet.

I've seen the Lenovo models go for just over $100 (beware the Atom and AMD models), which is not only far below what a used Ultrabook goes for, it's less than it usually costs to have a tablet's screen repaired. Which is another reason I went this route, the idea of a laptop I can replace entirely for less (much less just parts) than repairing my other systems was quite attractive, especially when it could run anything I wanted short of games. They are a niche market so you won't find Ebay flooded with Core I models, but bang for the buck and size, they are fantastic little machines. If you do consider one, check the netbook thread, I listed various models, prices and pros/cons.

I'd have to disagree honestly with the 200$ remark, 200$ isn't quite budget entry level but it's really not even mid tier either.  Given that Android is less efficient and needs higher specs than iOS to achieve the same results at 200$ you either settle for a tablet with decent specs and poor build quality or lower specs and decent build quality...and LTE? Forget about it.

As far as repairing i have no need since i always get Applecare+ and can just drop the thing off (Not that i have ever needed to) and i upgrade every 2 years anyway.  Given Sprints 0% APR payment plan and i can pay as little as 5$ a month for data for a small amount or add more should i so choose as i need it....it's a no brainer for me.  I DO totally understand your love of smaller laptops though as even 13.3 ultrabooks feel bulky as hell to me and too much to lug around.  BUt for myself personally the iPad is a better fit and there is nothing a laptop can do i need the iPad can not, all the while having it insured with damage protection and being able to use a 60% mech board with a smaller form factor than ever a netbook provides.

True, with LTE the price does go up (by stupid amounts) and that's understandable about tablets if you prefer them. I just hate tablets, they're fine for walking while doing something, they're great for wireless network troubleshooting and such, but otherwise they are just terrible in my opinion.

To each their own and fair enough :p  But i keep my pok3r solely for use with my iPad, that's my one negative is the fact my HHKB's don't work with the iPad....ah well gives me an excuse to stay used to Cherry Blues :p

Why wouldn't the HHKB work with the iPad if you have the USB camera adapter to hook it up? Something special going on?

The USB hub which can't be disabled by dip switch on the HHKB draws too much power and thus the HHKB Pro 2 does not work while the Pok3r (non backlit) does.  The iPads are very hit and miss on which boards do and do not work with them due to power usage.

Razer Deathadder 2013 (x2)
Razer Deathadder Chroma

Seriously, I don't even know why I bothered after the first one. Back in the day (DA 3.5g and before) I loved the DA. I hate the finish on the 2013 and newer models. It's really slippery and the rubber side grips aren't big enough to make up for the lack of grip. Also, the right click went bad on all three of them within a few months.

Logitech makes the best mass-produced mouses (yes, "mouses") these days. Been using three for the past 15 years with no issues, and they're still kicking.

Logitech QC is great and should you have an issue their support is second to none perhaps only tied with Corsair....my one issue however is their ergonomics need A LOT of tooling.  Among their current generation of mice i only find the G602 comfortable and it's far too heavy.  The g303/g502 etc just feel extremely uncomfortable IMO for extended use.  That said my G602 has seen a ton of travel...a ton of usage and still works like it was new...i just wish they were more comfortable and in the G602's case lighter.

Still, although #g502masterrace, I went to the shop today and that mouse felt really crappy. Trust-crappy. May be the model but... I really think they are overhyped. Go to amazon.com and read reviews, there are many issues with logitech mice. YMMV of course.

There will always be lemons, but when I get three **** DA's in a row that's a pretty bad sign, or I'm just very unlucky. Seems like Razer has always had bad QC from what I've read on other forums, but people also like to hate on Razer more than anyone else because of their marketing hype and styling. I use a Diamondback as my daily but I've only had it for a couple weeks now, so we'll see how long it lasts.

I would agree that Logitech makes the most reliable mouses (and maybe Corsair, like you mentioned). Of course, no technology is perfect. Unfortunately, neither of them make a mouse that I can stand the shape of (except the G602, but that only comes in wireless so that's a no-go).

True, that is also REALLY bad. I had it once with motherboards... It was a gigabyte with bad condensers. They just couldn't do it right.

Yeah, they should make a slightly larger G502. It's weird... G502 looks like is for palm grip, but it is better for claw but then pinky goes nowhere. I cannot figure out how I am supposed to hold teh G502. But that one is probably on me.

Isn't that how you're supposed to type? The rests are just there for when you're not typing.

OuO all these time i saw those typing vids all of them also rests their wrists on the rests when typing...

I rest my wrists while gaming. I don't game very often but I guess that would be a benefit to some that game often--if they rest their wrists while gaming

i dont own wrist rests of my own, but i've used a friend's one whilst playing osu, makes a big difference for me while gaming (osu). not sure how much benefit there is for typing though, might be comfortable for others
