Bend-gates 2, (Nintendo Switch)

What cha'll think...

Best solution is probably building some sort of (Filtered) intercooler dock and shipping that out to everyone..

The reason it should be an intercooler rather merely more passive clearance, is because of how thin and small the fan is,  so even at full clearance, the fan is not generating much pressure.

And this thing should be Filtered for sure, because more airflow on a  heatsink that small will clog up Real quick otherwise..

Not breaking.. but they're bending if used in docked mode under heavy load for long periods..

(it could be ambient temperature related in the posts so far)..  but clearly it can happen.

My brother really only uses his in docking mode.  Are you sure you didn't sit on yours lol.  I need to tell him.

That's not my nintendo switch..  it's just the most recent -bendgates- phenomenon.

I played Zelda solely in docked mode several days in a row for 12 hours a day. I'll have to check mine, didn't notice any bending and was applying a screen protector yesterday.

After Further Research.. It seems this is happening in - Handheld Mode as well..

In the handheld case, in order to deliver meaningful battery life, the fan is probably throttled too low..  Thereby not adequately cooling the switch in handheld mode.

That's the worst thing that could Happen to a portable device i suppose.. it overheating in either docked or handheld..

hahahahaha

But at least in handheld mode,  the solution is more straight forward...  software update to speed up the fan,  lose about an hours of battery life..

Better than bent switch..

We need a "Nintendo Switch Bent Gates Guide"!!!

I think it'd be actually quite easy to cobble together a forced air injection cooler for this device..   because it's small and flat, so you don't have to build any complicated air ducts..

What I would do is..  Cut a hole in the back of the existing dock and put in a high cfm 80mm fan.. Cut a corugated filter holder for it out of cardboard..  attach the device..

Then for the front of the dock, tape up the sides..  then take some more painters tape just apply it to the front and back of the nintendo switch where it meets the top lip of the dock, to make sure air injection is forced through the device rather than around it..

Overall using tape is a good idea, because painters tape typically leaves no residue or markes, is quite reuse-able, and you'd just tape it up whenever you dock it, wouldn't take more than 2 seconds..

You can make a more elegant solution,  but It wouldn't work any better.. because the shape isn't designed to fit with a seal, so even if you had some sort of rubber/ silicone skirt, the seal would not be superior to tape.

well people were theorizing that this would happen in dock mode only, because of the increased clock speed and less intake clearance in docked mode..

However, if this is happening in handheld mode as well,   that would indicate a systemic heat issue.

Interesting. It sounds like Nintendo hired Apple to design it and produce first gen.
