Which keyboard switches should I get for my first build?
« on: Thu, 26 November 2020, 00:55:27 »
Hello, I've been lurking around for a while now and finally decided to build a keyboard for the first time. I've been using a RAKK ILIS for 2 years now and have used linears the most, I tried outemu blues before I got a mech from a friend and I liked them, but now I want to try good clickes and tactiles.

I will be putting the switches I am most interested about in their types first.

Tactile: Boba U4, DUROCK T1, and DUROCK Koalas (I will be lubing the last two switches if I ever get them)
Clicky: Kailh BOX Pinks, and Kailh BOX Jades

I don't really care about the sound profile of Boba U4's and BOX Pink's/Jade's being the complete opposite, I feel like I would like them both, but I just can't choose.
I won't be buying anything else for a while so I want my first build's switches to be nice and suit me.

Holy Pandas (T1, U4, and v2 Zealios) are a little intense for a first tactile switch. I would try some Everglide Jades or get a JWK switch with the Rara stem like Shogoki which are available now.

Durock T1's and Koalas are the same switch with different colors.

I love tactiles but they are the most complicated switch to get right.
Linear is simply buy a good switch, add lube to everything. Clickies are sort of a sledghammer, everything is over the top that they can mask a lot of bad things like rattly stabs or ping, even lube is masked to an extent by how they operate. Tactile by comparison is like a surgical knife and everything needs to be extremely precise because you will hear and feel everything. Unfortunately because of this, it's extremely personal and you need to actually try them before you can settle and figure out exactly what you want.
