Obama's Economic Policy
« on: Wed, 25 June 2014, 09:17:25 »
I just read this morning that the US economy contracted by 2.9% in Q1 2014, following a period of stagnated economic growth after the 2008-2009 recession. So how how do you feel about the domestic economic policy of the Obama administration? Has it been a success? Or could it perhaps have less than stellar intentions?

it always swings up and down.. between unsustainable optimism, to overblown pessimism..

Obama has the Least bit to do with it..

All you have to know...  is that... interest rates are LOW...  so if you want to start something.. do it now..

The best image I have of Obama, is that one where he is shown bowing to the Saudi king.

Obama's economic policy is basically to run up massive debts and kiss Goldman Sachs' ass.

I'm not treating this personally. I am not white and do not dislike Obama for his physiognomy. But I think he was too inexperienced, and wound up trusting certain 'experts' (aka Goldman Sachs alumni) a little too much. I think if Obama had another 12 or 16 years as senator or state governor before becoming president, he would be a guy who really made a difference.

Now? Black face or white face, it's still printing money, mortgaging America's future to kiss Goldman Sachs' ass.

You only feel that way because this thread can actually lead to a real discussion.

Do you mean the ones that watched their finances and can buy a house or start a business with a 2%-3% loan?

Or, do you mean the ones that ran up credit card debt, missed payments every other month, and have nothing to show for it?

What I have a problem with is the fact that the federal government spent over a trillion dollars in stimulus, bailed out all these big companies, passed this 5000 page mess of a health care law, and the economy is still going down the toilet. More government is obviously not the answer. For economic growth, we need more private industry, investment, and jobs.

I'm referring to the AVERAGE college student, so I'm obviously talking about the latter. The fact that I even have to clarify this is a bit unnerving...

And I'm referring to student loans btw... again, the fact that I had to clarify that... *facepalm*

This is one thing that I never understand about Americans.

What is it about debt that is good?

Debt is good only if you are a government and print your own money eg the Feds/ THE FED. Your average student should be out in the streets demonstrating. It's disgusting that colleges are allowed to charge two arms, two legs and two ears for the privilege of being taught by underpaid, exploited teaching assistants struggling for their master's degrees.

I blame the contraction on the winter weather.  It was rough.  Certainly was not good for my GDP.

And American colleges are so bloated, it's not even funny.  I had a BS university job in college that should not have existed, and I was part of that bloat.  Public colleges should be kept cheap and lean and focused on their goal of educating, considering they are funded by public money, but they were allowed allowed to grow into these ridiculous corporations.  And now they only fund themselves by accepting tons of foreign students and rich out of state students paying full tuition.

A public university should be focused on serving the students in it's own state, and ours do not do that.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

The Democratic Party is the party of government.

To spur the economy we need to reduce the size, scope and power of the federal government. This is something no Democrat will ever do, and Republicans might do, if they find their balls.
