Help Me Choose!
« on: Tue, 29 January 2013, 14:43:26 »
So I was pretty set on waiting for WASD version of Tenkeyless, but I don't know if I have the patience!

I am looking at this Cherry MX red Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless on Anazon and with Prime I can get it super fast.

I am going to buy the PBT set from KBC, but I can use those for either I choose. But do you all think I should just pick up the Filco? Or just be patient?

I love how WASD has no logos, but my inner geek is kicking in! Plus I can always return the Filco in 30 days when it is closer to WASD release and get some play time with it. Might even write a review if I do so.

What do you all think!?

It's up to you.
WASD seems good, but the new keyboard has yet to be vetted. On the other hand, the Filco is tried and true.

Assuming the new WASD will be costar, everything else checks out..

The case is good, 2 piece screwed together, so it should be mod friendly, easy to disassemble..

What can go wrong? besides ebola contaminated keys... which is rare.

Please don't return a used keyboard as somehow "defective" and expect the seller to eat the loss.

That is both rude and dishonest, in my opinion.

You can sell it here for 80% of what you paid for it, but you always need a backup, and various "trades" come up all the time.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. You can always resell your Filco for a decent amount and use it to fund the WASD V2 purchase.

30 day return policies are not only for "defective" products... But I think your first mistake was assuming I would do something dishonest. :/

As for using it as a backup; I was actually planning on getting both a Blue and Red switch setup, considering I like the idea of Reds for gaming, but love the tactile feel of blues for typing.

Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth ;/

That's what I'm thinking.

Anyone have any experience with O-Ring modifiers? I used to love the soft feeling rubber dome keyboards gave along with tactile feel. I am wondering if O-Rings with Blue or Brown switches would have this effect.

I bought the sampler pack from WASD which included the three types of o-rings. I found the red one to be the most suitable for my brown switches, so I ordered the 120-pack. The black and blue o-rings were too stiff for me.

The red o-rings decreased the pitch of the sound from high to low. They also gave the keycaps a softer bottoming out, which is a pleasant feelings for my fingers.

Yeah, this is basically what I am looking for... perfect.

Perhaps I should still get the sample pack just to see which are best for me and the switch type I go with.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with Filco. The WASD v2 would be more of a risk in my opinion, but I highly doubt it's a bad keyboard

IF the case is snap together rather than screw closed.. then it's a total do not buy for me... because other than the case that tkl doesn't have any other significantly useful improvements.

I was going to buy the WASD tenkeyless when it comes out, however, since hearing about the newer keyboards coming i think i am going to wait. If Filco and Leopold and even Poker come out with smaller keyboards than the tenkeyless, i may buy those instead. The tenkeyless isn't as portable as the mini keyboards. Even the new Matias Mini Tactile is more portable. I hope Filco comes out with a newer model soon.  :)

Leopold FC200 does not have a "standard" space bar which is problematic if you're planning on fitting it with a set of aftermarket keycaps. However, I only have only good things to say about its quality construction. It's inexpensive and is a solid TKL for $99.

If I had the choice of buying my first mechanical keyboard again, I would have gone with a Quickfire Rapid. It's also inexpensive like the Leopold, but it uses a "standardized" space bar so you won't have problems fitting aftermarket sets.

The library for research, work, other co-workers homes. It's just a lot easier carrying something that is the size of the HHKB around. I hope the POKER follows the design only this time with the arrow keys.

What new keyboards? I am going with TKL for the look as I have no use for portability.

Although, I would like to know what's in the works.

Library, in the internet era?

Work, just buy a second keyboard? You're going back there every day...  :))

Other Co-worker's homes... I honestly can't imagine why you'd need to bring a separate keyboard to someone's house unless you're doing a LAN, which again, "in the internet era?", wth... ???

Damn, you seem awfully offended at someone else's personal preference lol. I could definitely see why someone would want something portable, especially for gaming. Between tournaments, LAN parties, conventions and such. Also, sometimes people might prefer saving money and getting something portable as opposed to "buying a second one".

Anyway, I think I've decided to wait for the WASD and pick up two of them. One blue, one red. The deal breaker for me was WASD's chassis being completely black. I like how it doesn't say "Caps" and "Scroll" near the lights like Filco does.

Plus those lights will be white on the WASD and that will match the Febix Nascita I plan on picking up to complete the set.

Thanks for defending me.  :-*  I like going to the library to do research and I don't always have peace and quiet at home. No, i don't go to the library to use the internet. I also don't use the card catalog anymore either.  :))
