In the market for a Mechanical keyboard.

Hi guys, I'm gonna be building a new PC and I have some extra money that I didn't know about. I'm looking to get a mechanical keyboard. I have a few in mind.. But I wanna know what you guys think as you guys definitely know your stuff. My budget is $103 haha. I'd really like for it to have some USB ports on it. It would be really helpful. I'm gonna use it for both gaming and typing/general use. Thanks guys.

do you know what switches you want?

if no, get a sampler kit or try keyboards out first (samplerkits : http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/sampler-kit-1.html )

if you know what switches you want, the best bang for the buck are Coolermaster Quickfire Rapids.

If you plan to do soldering mods in the future with customized switches like ERgo clears, panda, etc.... then stretch the budget for a FILCO.. the PCB takes to soldering much better than the Quickfire Rapid.


If you don't plan to customize the switches, then go with the QUICKFIRE rapid....

If you type a decent amount, get Blue's or Browns.

If all you ever do is game, go for Blacks.

If you don't want or need a numpad, there are TenKeyLess (TKL), 75% (no arrows or special key cluster) and 60% (no Function keys).
I like 60%'s myself.

Yeah, I want either a blue or a brown, doesn't matter at this point.

Blues are noisier than browns, but the tactile feedback is better.

Some people find that the release point being above the activation point is awkward for gaming, especially if you need to double tap.
