Wait a minute

How do FPS gamers claim they need more than 6KRO when their right hand is always on the mouse?  :)

I've not yet played a game where 6kro is essential..

iidx, doesn't count because you're not meant to play that on a keyboard.

I think it's the marketing by gaming gear manufacturers that leads gamers to believe they need anything more than 6KRO.

Do they?

I'd think the FPS gamers that want to have 6kro or more sometimes play mmo?

MMOs nowadays also keep a mouse occupying a hand.

Heh, #mechworldproblems.
Also, FWIW, I recall that you can use a Soarer-verter to achieve USB NKRO if that is permitted by the matrix of the keyboard.

I have never been in a situation where I needed more that 4kro. Currently all my keyboards are plugged in through USB, not using the PS/2 converter that comes with my Filcos.

6kro is 6keys + mods

i your case ctrl+alt are mods. so you still have 1 key left.

the only advantage 6KRO has given me is the ability to type into chat while holding down a combination of WASD. otherwise, I don't notice any difference. The one mech board that gave me KRO problems while gaming was my 1995 Lexmark 122; it seems most modern keyboards have common combos fixed.

That board was actually my first choice, because it cost the same as the z68 pro..

alas the z68 pro was on sale and I needed the Sata ports and a pci slot for my modded soundcard...

Besides NKRO don't forget the need for the gold plated low latency usb cables necessary for gaming supremacy, or a least a good sales pitch BS line.

While we're at it we might as well add a 7.1 gaming headset, a 6k+ DPI mouse and some yellow tinted sunglasses.

What gnubag said there. I use an 8200CPI SteelSeries Wireless, usually running around 6K CPI in profiles and usually with around 1000CPI on the CPI trigger button for the game profiles.

ProTip: when you're running 5760x1200 you can forget 3K CPI and below. I have both SteelSeries QcK Large and 5C mousepads. (The 5C is one of the largest out there.) Unless I crank everything to the max at 1500CPI, I run out of mousepad going left to right. Does not work.

That said, the Wireless also doesn't bother with 'gold plated' garbage or anything like that, which is why I like it. It's a very no-nonsense gaming mouse, much like my keyboards. None of this "gold plated" BS - just built like a tank, with excellent performance and reliable software. Crap software and gold plated BS is why you'll pretty much never catch me running any but two "gaming" keyboards in existence.

800-1000 CPI works best for me on desktop (1920*1080) but I use a lower sens for games.

PtoTip: 3000 CPI at 5760x1200 (Win 6/11) is about 5 cm from left to right.

most people macro things like that.  it's really not a good argument, because tf2 isn't big on the pro circuit.

You cannot macro that. you can, but that wouldn't help. sometimes you crouch 2 seconds, throw grenade then while you crouch, sometimes sometimes sometimes. Hard to explain in english, but macro that would mean it's always exact the same "timeline" you need, but you have to be flexible...

False.

I think this is the thing. You need more then 2KRO, and the next usual step up is 6KRO.

You can't throw grenades in TF2 ;)

I can certainly see his point from a CSGO players point of view though. Sometimes when you go to throw a nade you can find yourself in a dicey situation that requires a lot of key presses to attempt survival.

all FPS never require more than 3 keystrokes, but having  2KRO in FPS can be problematic.

Yes, mostly my point is keyblocking can be deadly. I tried to play some games on my 1800 which have only 2KRO and I found the keyblocking to be very annoying. 6KRO is more than enough, anything more is pretty much unneeded surely though for all but a very few games. There are a couple old DOS era games pre mouse look that have the cursor keys for that, so you can get above needing 6KRO there since you are using both hands on the keyboard. Definitely an exception case though which probably is not a concern for a lot of people that don't play ancient game still.
