Now I understand (about razer BW)
« on: Tue, 04 June 2013, 18:56:49 »
Ok, so it happened. I came back to my hometown and what do I see on my little sisters desk? Razer BW... I was thinking to my self "okay, I was supposed to get her the keyboard, but let's give this a try".

It is absolutely terrible!!! Total crap! I thought other GHers exaggerated when writing about the BW, but they didn't. I can only compare it to Ducky shine II and CM QK TK, cause those are the ones I tried. The keycaps are the worst I ever touched. Can't even describe how cheap they feel. The whole layoyt is out of wack. For example, I want to press "a", but I keep pressing "caps lock". They quality on the MX blues feels so much less them the Ducky MX blue I recently sold. I don't think I'd buy this board if it was $50.

What are you talking about...

I have it under good authority, Frostnibblez, aka Ripster 2.0, aka new master of all things keyboard

..... That the BW Ultimate, is indeed the ultimate keyboard.

It's not a great board, but it's not that bad, in my opinion. Sheesh.

Seriously though, what is up with all this BWU attention lately? It's been out for a while, but this thing keeps coming up! When will people stop buying this thing?

It's Razer, they market things well and they have a good distribution chain.
Lose either and they go down in a blaze of glory.

Yup, you got me lol !! it's not like I'm an adult with a job that can afford any keyboard

Other observations. I don't like to font. The key caps are quite loose. Just like on rubber domes.

Just wanna clear up some misconception here... just because most of us are adults with a job doesn't mean we can just afford any keyboard and buy at will. It's called bills and responsibilities. You'll understand someday :P

Razer has done a phenomenal job marketing themselves. People will continue to buy the BW/BWU, if only because they are curious about mechanical boards, and they're fans of Razer's gear.

Amen. While I was a single adult I could probably have afforded whatever I want. Now that I'm no longer single (and with a kid to boot), the situation is much, much different.

I used it for ten minutes and returned it. it is a pos. among other things, somehow they got cherry switches to feel worse than a $10 dome. if your sister is really young, like 8 or something it might not matter. other than it is a terrible waste of money.

Then get a Ducky with blue LEDs ;)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

fun fact i have a unopened new BWU-Stealth i got for like 50+% off a while back, was a gift to my wife but she never opened it. I'm wondering when i will ever open the box. LOL. Dont hate on people who like back light though. a lot of normal adults really like back lighting. my work latitude E6410 has a backlit keyboard and that computer is not meant for gaming at all!

I think it's cuz every kid goes through the "Blue-Lights" phase.

I've tried the Razer board before and I thought it was fine.

Didn't really find anything wrong with it aside from the macro keys, though I just prefer keyboard without macro key because I keep hitting it by accident lol.

But it's true you can't deny that Razer is good at marketing and some of their mice are actually not that bad.

It was actually a Razor that I saw in a local computer store and used.  It felt nice, being the first mechanical keyboard I had used for many years.  I did a little bit of research which led me to Geekhack.  Then I saw the light.  And bought a Ducky.  Then another Ducky.  Then a QFR.  Now a KeyCool.  I am addicted - HELP ME!!1!!!

I do not like it for the way it looks and because it adds features I do not care about. However, I am pretty sure it will not cause me to hit the incorrect button or things like that. The reason people dislike it so much is because of the "gaming" branding and marketing, and while it does its best to look flashy, it does not add anything worthwhile in basic functionality.

I sometimes go to LANs with my clan a couple of times a year. And one of them has the recently released Razer Blackwidow tournament edition. Of course I checked it out. And while I prefer my Filco, and for the price would have gone with the ever popular QFR, I think that it is still a pretty decent keyboard for what he paid for it, and it does not actually look all that bad.

I've never used a BWU, so I don't really understand how they could've done this.

After all cherry blues are cherry blues, they should be the same in any board.  And I believe the blackwidow is plate mounted, as well.

Yeah I tried out a Razer once at a store, it felt shoddy compared to my QFR's and I didn't even have to test them out because of this forum.
