Hahahahaha...

Cursing is an art..

It's not that curse words are bad,  it's that if we used them all the time, there'd be no emphasis, and we'd end up having to come up with more and more curse words to replace the ones that have become trite and mellow..

The issue is that he's in the 6th grade and won't know when to shut up.

Jeez, if was that young still I'd get the belt...

I do agree that there would be no emphasis. I'm sure my coaches loud voice is enough emphasis... Or are you speaking in terms of emphasis on the good ol internet?

I don't think he understands what they all mean yet, like mother-f, but damn.... It's not just once in one sentence. It's every other word there's another f bomb.

I was told not to do it. I felt bad when I did it, so I don't do it now. Perhaps get on his level and help him understand it's not always the right thing to do.

Note* He's my half brother. He has two other brothers. I learned from my older brother. He doesn't really curse, neither do I.

I actually wonder when he's going to create a GH account now. Or when he'll buy some more boards...

I curse from time to time, but not constantly, or after every word.

And this thread is a prime example on why parents shouldn't be afraid to spank kids these days.  I realize it isn't always the right answer, but I got my ass kicked as a kid.  I never got one I didn't deserve and probably deserved a few more than I got.  But I have nothing but total respect for both of my parents.  I know in the state of Iowa, it isn't child abuse unless it leaves a mark for 24 hours.

When I was in 5th or 6th grade, there was a local case on the news where a kid was getting disciplined by his parents via spanking.  Well the kid didn't like that so he called the cops with child abuse charges.  Well, that report came on when my brother and I were getting disciplined for breaking a fishing pole.  He told us that if we ever called the cops on them with child abuse charges, there would be a reason for them by the time they got there.  You know what, that thought never once crossed either my mind or my brothers.

TLDR, if you want respect from kids, you have to start with good strong discipline at a young age.  Can't let them run wild up to junior high/high school, and then expect to reel them in.

I mean, there's other ways of disciplining your children too though. My parents never do things like that and I'm an A/B student who doesn't do drugs and stuff, respects adults, and doesn't go out and do generally stupid ****. There is a line though, some parents literally let their kids do whatever, buy everything for them, stuff like that. And for them, RL will be a rude awakening

By all means, I don't mean that it is the only way to discipline kids.  I just mean that it is still a viable and legal option that does have merits.

Sure, to an extent, some people certainly react better to positive punishment rather than negative.

This is true, and probably has a lot to do with social issues around as well.  From what I have noticed, a good smack on the ass is about the best way to get their attention.  That doesn't just go in one ear and out the other.

that's because you were probably too scared of your father to think about calling the cops when he hit you.

but fear != respect, a lot of the times. my father never hit us, never threatened to hit us but he did take away stuff that we liked. what it taught us is one's actions have consequences.

granted, some kids are just terrible no matter what. beating them, taking away their toys or trying to reason with them.. some just dont give a ****.

which is why, as long as i can help it, i dont want kids. ever.

We weren't scared of him, just the consequences of when we did something wrong.  Not everything got that punishment.

But really, it should pass with time when he realizes how dumb he sounds. I'm sure you've already done so, but if you haven't, explaining how stupid and ignorant it looks and sounds can help too. Examples help. The fact that you care enough to try help shows that you'll be a great example to him <3

I do like the idea of the shock collar though....

I don't see him all the time though. I live with my mom, and he lives with dad and his mom.

It could just be that he heard all this from the internet and being in the 6th grade. Everything spreads like wildfire...
