I feel like there is a difference between Veteran's Day and Armistice Day... despite being essentially the same thing, held on the same day for the same reasons.

THANK YOU

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Proudly served myself, 5 years in the USN as Aviation Structural Mechanic attached to Helantisubron 7 at NAS Jacksonville, FL. Squadron was attached to the USS Harry S. Truman CVN-75.  Lot of long hours, lot of good times, lot of good ports, and met tons of awesome people.

Now, my rant of the Veterans Day "free" meals and such at local restaurants.  In my opinion it is nothing but advertising disguised.  If they really wanted to support and or help the troops, they could offer a small discount or such all year long.  Or have a portion of the profits from the bill go to a non profit organization of choice.

These guys do TONS with the USO and for the military.  They shot the vast majority of the footage for their rendition of Bad Company originally done by Bad Company during a USO tour that had.  I have immense respect for these guys.

I am not a veteran, but I agree that most flag-waving is empty and insulting.

Except for the VA and some educational assistance, we as a nation do not do nearly enough for those who serve us.
Citizens United violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the president.
So now we’ve just seen a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors, who want and expect and sometimes get favors for themselves after the election’s over.”

Beats nothing I suppose. Yes, it is obviously advertisement. Family of four goes to dinner, they give 1 meal away and sell 3.
Buffalo Wild Wings had comments on their FaceBook complaining about the free food they were giving was not enough. Like seriously? Did you join the military for free wings?  Pathetic.

Chipotle used to give 50% off to military personnel. The cashier recognized me so I never had to even ask.  Then they stopped.  :'(

You Americans and your huge racks of medals... All I got is dis:

Made myself a little showbox as well from some squadron t-shirts, beret, TRF and belt. NATO medal is just a duplicate we get for Afghan and we can't wear it alongside our GSM.

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Ah, nice. I don't think they had 1B4 when I enlisted (1999), or I probably would have chosen that. :)
