Dell S2417DG vs Dell S2716DG, worth the $250 difference?
« on: Thu, 09 March 2017, 02:10:07 »
I have been using my small 16" laptop for the longest time and I'm getting a new monitor soon, and I was wondering what you guys would recommend?

I'm contemplating whether the approximately $200 dollars difference is worth it at 24" vs 27"

I haven't used a 24" or 27" monitor before so I can't really state a preference off hand, I sit about 2 and a half feet away from my monitor, give or take.

EDIT: It appears amazon just has really messed up prices, the price difference isn't quite as large.

I've been using 27" monitors for years now. To me it's the perfect size for a desk. Any bigger and I don't think I would like it. Unless of course we were talking about ultra wide monitors or something like that.

24 will be a fantastic upgrade to what you're used to, but then you will long for a 27. I've got 3 24' and they are perfect, but I wish I had 3 27's!

SIDENOTE: Is the resolution in these 2 models different?

Both are 2560x1440 144hz/165hz and G-sync monitors.

I've heard of less inverse ghosting problems and overshoot problems with the 24 inch model, so I don't know.

i find that for my standing desk, because i can stand a bit further away from it,  a 40 inch tv works best.

Buhhhhhhhh.. at the desk with the chair a 30 to 36 inch would still work well..

don't worry too much about resolution,  Almost nothing is worth seeing in HD except movies and dota/hearthstone

So what I do is run everything in 1280x800 on my 30 inch,  and when I'm awtching a movie, i'd hotkey to 2560x1600.

also,  get a ULMB monitor..

It's just so much better... motion clarity is everything for moving pictures.. be it games/ movies.

it's the single most important feature..

Dell S2716DG

You are not going to notice the difference between 144hz and 165hz.

More so about the size rather than 144hz and 165hz, I don't know if 24" is too small for 1440p.

But I'm leaning for the s2716dg since it's only $50 more on the dell website.

I've owned both the S27 and the S24. I currently use the S24, along with 3 other 24" 1440p panels.

If you don't absolutely need the desk space like I do, get the S27. The tiny extra hz of the S24 isn't noticeable. 27" is the sweet spot for 1440p, I only like 24" because I'm used to it.
I typed this post on my Slanck. I also developed a stronger, cleaner, easier handwiring method.
