Resisting Night Eating
« on: Fri, 29 October 2021, 21:34:28 »
It's almost time to turn in, but then comes this urge to eat a giant bowl of noodles.

NE1 else ?  How to resist such unhealthy habit ?

It takes a lot of will power. I am struggling to break the habit myself.

My daughter, since she was in high school, made a rule for herself not to eat or drink anything but water after 8:00pm. Although it was not ironclad, even in college she made an effort to stick with it - to a greater or lesser degree (and likely never on weekends). After college, she does pretty well at it although now she is working late hours and that makes it a lot harder.

That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.

It's been scientifically proven that eating before bed does not cause more weight gain than usual. In fact many studies show it to be the other way around, a small snack before bed keeps the digestive system active throughout your sleep time which leads to burning more calories overall.
So you totally should have something to eat right before bed! Just not like a major meal or something.

I stopped eating after dinner for 5 weeks now.  I've lost 23 pounds...  I just force myself to drink ice water if I'm hungry.  Sometimes chew gum.  Go to bed earlier than I used to because of it, but it's worth it to me.  The reason why I have done this is because I have been suffering from "globus pharyngis." Feeling like something is stuck in your throat for months sucks ass.  Supposidly might be GERD.  So this is my path.  That and nothing but water to drink and smaller portions at meals.

I find amphetamines help suppress appetite.

It’s been 5 weeks so far.  I’m also taking a very mild dosage of proton pump inhibitor.  I’d say it’s 30-40% better.  The course is to go 3 months and see if it goes away completely.

I cannot fall asleep hungry. I have switched to a healthier cereal or snack like almonds.  On my nights off, we'll have one of the healthier popcorn brands instead of chips while watching movies or gaming.  It hasn't made a substantial difference, but I have a feeling my age and metabolism slowing down may be factors.

Statistically, the average US adult bed time is 11:30pm and dinner time is 6:00-7:00pm.
If you have eaten an adequate appropriate dinner you should not be "hungry" a few hours later.
Late night eating is a physical habit.

I snack to counter anxiety, which typically starts near bed-time.

Eater too close to bed-time is not recommended if you have problems with gastric reflux though.

Except while watching a movie, it's not out of habit. If I'm not hungry, I won't eat before bed during the week.

I'm up at 330, 1230 bedtime would make a terrible day.

Most things are just brute force willpower unfortunately. A couple of years ago I decided to not eat in the evening and I generally don't. No dramatic weight loss result mind you but it is coming off ever so slowly more recently.

I've been reducing my portions and not eating anything after 8pm for few weeks now. It is hard sometimes when I stay longer, playing a game or just reading tp's posts on GH till moon ;)
I feel like it is working but I'm sure it is a long term comitment here till I notice a difference.

It might be working a bit over here,   waking up with less dry mouth.
