Thoughts on Steam Machine?
« on: Thu, 13 November 2025, 16:49:59 »

I like it personally. I think it is a good direction for the future of gaming hardware, a harmonizing of console and PC features with the option of how to utilize it up to the end user.

Really excited to see how it does. I think it will open the door to PC gaming to a lot of people that are used to a traditional console experience.

Somewhat interested. Curious if this is to be for non PC gamers or try to be a machine strictly for PC gamers to use.
My stuff:
Alice, 910 RE, Jane v2, 910 CE, Kohaku

Spoke to a couple dudes who work at Valve, and yeah, they are just waiting for memory prices to come down.
Gives 'em more time to perfect it, which isn't a bad thing. Production costs would just be too crazy for the current global economic situation, but I doubt they can put it off all the way till Dump is OOO

Thoughts on Steam Machine?

I think it could revolutionize transportation and industrial production...
But I fear it will threaten the horse-carriage industry and skilled manual labor :(

Serious mode ON
A small black box that can play PC games, but has the convenience of a console, and a price somewhere in between? Great!

I am 100% behind Valve on this, they have made the push needed for people to realize Windoze isn't the only viable OS - now just need more studios coming on-board which it looks like they are.

GPU is at the performance lvl of 1660 Ti.

That's more than enough for old games, but it's not going to run any new AAA.

Chip design is RDNA3, so maybe FSR4.1 might help - a bit, but you'd be looking at 720p into 1080p out maybe 1440p, if you pull 720p into 4K, not sure this chip has enough flops to do that efficiently.

I do think it needs more vRAM and the 32gb version is a must, idk how it is gonna run 60fps 4k as they claim on that GPU
