OK, here are some things that are decided:
There will be a full set of basic-colored keys in a standard layout, so special Esc or WASD keys will be optional. Specially colored WASD keys will be included, as will some sort of special Esc key (either special color or special art) will be included. There will be an extra control key for the caps-lock position.
The font will be the standard signature Arial style font because that's all that's available. The position will be modern and not retro unless it's prohibitively expensive.
Things that are not decided:
Color scheme is not settled. Later on I'll pick some of the popular options and have a vote. I consider myself to have veto power considering I'm doing the organizing and taking some monetary risk. The current most popular options mostly agree with my own opinion though.
I'm still leaning strongly toward DCS family keycaps because of the modern look, but SA hasn't been ruled out.
Additional extra keys (e.g. stepped caps-lock, J shaped enter, special GH or HJKL keys, international keys, etc.) are not decided.
If enough people would like blanks, maybe we'll do that. That will improve compatibility with international keyboards and alternate layouts. With a couple extra home row keys, people could use the alternate colored keys for GH or HJKL. It would probably make the set cheaper too, and give us the option for PBT or ABS.
It's not yet decided if we'll do a trollface key or awesomeface key. It might come up to a vote. Not sure if we're doing it for the Esc key or the OS keys. I'll have to do some adjustment to the art on both to make them double-shot compatible, and I'll have some sort of preview for that available at some point in the future.
Some restrictions:
We will need a minimum of 50 participants. Otherwise it's not really affordable.
We don't have a choice of font, but we do have a choice of placement.
The keycaps must be ABS for the double-shot process. Blanks can be PBT or ABS. Glow-in-the-dark can't be used with the double-shot process. Double-shots can only have one color in the legend. Multi-colored legends require pad-printing or dye sub.
We're restricted in color choice by what Signature has in stock. They have a lot of colors, so it's probably not a problem, but we may be limited in certain parts of the spectrum or some more subtle shades.
