CM quickfire questions
« on: Fri, 23 March 2012, 21:09:04 »
I recently bought cm quickfire blue switch and there were two things that i need to know the answers of.

1) is it normal for some of the key switches to sound and feel different from others? the key Y and O have very, very light tactile feel and almost no clicky noise.

2) is it normal for the keyboard to not function as USB in certain computers because of power? the cm quickfire keyboard doesnt seem to work while using the USB but it works when i use the ps/2 converter. however, the keyboard works with USB for my laptop.

1) Tbh, I haven't noticed the Y,O having light feel of tactile and no click noise weird. The board is a great build maybe try getting new key caps as the ones the come with it suck anyways.

2) Yeah, its possible but unlikely that a computer cannot run a keyboard through USB, maybe try switching ports or just use ps/2 as what I do so there is NKRO. There is a 6KRO with USB.

1. How long ago did you get it? It's possible that some particle got into the switch somehow, and is causing it to not click. Otherwise it's normal for the clicks and tactility of each key to be slightly off, but not noticeable.

2. Not sure it's normal, could just be computer specific.

I've had it for two days now. First one was DOA so I have to go to the store for a replacement.
For me, Y and O's lack of sound and tactile feel is really annoying and I might want it replaced before the store warranty expires.

I don't think replacing the keycaps will improve the switch. hahaha.

This is a bit annoying about blue, but I don't enjoy Black switch because of accidental misclicks.

If you are thinking about replacing it I would strongly recommend new keycaps also if you have the money.

What are the benefits of different key caps? Do they offer some sort of sound or feel difference?

Btw, is CM quickfire one of those keyboards which you need to solder/desolder to replace switch? the lack of sound/tactile feel is really bugging me. LOL.

The CM quickfire looks awesome with white pbt engraved keycaps! I was using them untill I got my thick pbt red dye subs :D

I can see how it can be annoying to have unevenness, so if you can get it replaced, go for it.

Alright. Time for a third visit to the store... lol...

Hmm... I'm not very wealthy so I probably wont buy keycaps anytime soon but I'll keep it in mind.
I would love to get my hands on the zerg keycap. ^^ individual keycaps seem very expensive. hahaha

You would probably need to desolder it since it is plate mounted. There will be a slight difference between ABS/ PBT keys, and between thin/thick keys. The PBT and thick keys will slight dampen the noise, or atleast make it lower pitched.

For blue switches, even for other brands like the blackwidow... there are some minor differences on the sound and clickyness feel from switch to switch. This is from my experience. No helping it I guess... these are plastic parts and the double action of the blue switches makes it even prone to this. But the difference shouldn't be that huge. If it is a big difference from the other keys, and I am still in the store, I'll have it replaced by another unit. One problem is if you had it shipped... then its too much of a hassle to have it replaced.

hmmm. that's unfortunate. if this is common issue, then i dont really see blue switch as a great switch.
i dont like red because of the lightness and linearity, which is prone of typos. black is o-k but it is prone to typos. i havent tried browns but i read their tactile bumps are lighter/smaller than blue, which is disappointing. i would like to try out the clear switch.
i guess next time, i should keep brown or black switches in mind.

What exactly does that have to do with this thread? :focus:

It's honestly not a noticeable problem at all for most people.

I don't listen or look at my keyboard. I honestly couldn't care less about the blue clicky-sound. I just needed the tactility.

Almost right although if you are a programmer or practicly anyone using a computer a second monitor is a god send (although I am making do with one at 'work') and would go on to say a good chair becomes a better upgrade than any peripheral.

Hell no. Keyboard/mouse are absolute priority. Period. They are what you actually touch and interact with. I can deal with a small monitor if I have my kb/mouse all set straight.
