Shaving stuff.

So I'm definitely a layman when it comes to shaving, but what do you think as for shaving cream vs gel?
I use both, I think it's a matter of taste. From what I've read, the correct way to use shaving cream is to lather it up in a mug, like shaving soap, and apply with a brush. I tend to apply it directly, usually over a bit of pre-shave oil. Shaving gel seems to rinse off easier, there again it depends on brand. Just got some Prorasso shave gel, going to give that a try.
