My first ergo clear mod - KBT Pure
« on: Tue, 25 September 2012, 02:06:12 »
I put some Kreayshawn on Spotify then took a vanilla KBT pure and modded it to have ergo clears. This version of the pure is perfect because the only key that has an LED on it is the function key, which I'm ok with it leaving it feeling different so that I can be lazy and avoid soldering.

The crazy tools I used:

Part of the way done:

The pile of clears:

Started to open up the clears:

All done, still looks the same as my previous posting in the Pure collection thread "hank the tank":

Now that I'm typing on it I am loving the feel. Great tactility, considerably more so than browns. Loving not bottoming out like I do with reds and most of the time on browns. I did leave the spacebar as a regular clear to be prepared for a heavier titanium key.

Pretty sweet.

In terms of tactility, Um, I got a weird request.

Can you throw a big towel over an mx-blue board, and compare the tactility while "muffling" the mx blue click noise, to this ergo white?

wouldn't be possible to replace the LED keys as well?

Unfortunately I don't have any blues, traded away my QFR with blues because I didn't like the clicky sound. Also these are clears so they are just a larger tactile bump than browns, whites actually have an actuator like blues do.

It would be possible, but I would have to desolder the LED and remove it first, and I don't have the expertise or equipment to do so.

I'd like to do the same with a KBT Race and I'm a bit scared of all those damned LEDs
