UFC talk anyone?
« on: Tue, 06 November 2012, 19:43:48 »
I follow UFC like people follow football. I've often said I wish our paper had some form of MMA agate. I know there isn't anything going on right now that is huge, so I'll post an observation to fuel this thread.

And mind you, I am anti-prohibition ...

Recently. Dave Herman tested positive for marijuana metabiloids after he dropped a fight. Same thing with Diaz after he dropped the Condit fight. I think that was the second time for him too. Do you think the herb had a thing to do with their losses? Ever heard of somebody winning a fight and then test positive for THC?

They say weed is a pain reliever, so it could give an unfair advantage in a fight, but it looks like the effects on the brain may give the unfair advantage to the opponent.

So who's fighting this weekend, Franklin vs Lee? Does anyone care about this match?

And Cerone vs Pettis is on the books for UFC on Fox 6. That one is gonna be great.

I'll probably be watching this weekend just to get my fill, unfortunately not in HD, as I haven't seen anything since Bonnar got beat down.

Otherwise I'm really looking forward to 154 in just over a week to see GSP and Condit.

Who do you like?

I'm for the very first time hoping GSP wins (hate that guy) because I want to see Silva do him in like he did Belfort. I hope it will be a good fight but I don't know if I like Condit all that much either. They both are points fighters, so it might look like gay porn for 25 minutes.

I've only been watching for the last year or so, and Condit v Diaz was one of the earlier fights that I've seen, plus I haven't watched any of GSPs old fights, so no real favorite for me here.

GSP has been hyped up by plenty of friends though, so I'm curios to see how he does after his injury, etc.

UFC on Fox 5 looks like a pretty good card too, so it seems like a busy and good next few weeks.

You watch Ultimate Fighter? I consider it a guilty pleasure.

This...

Also seeing tonight is the last TUF preliminary match I am hoping Ricci gets his arrogant little face beat in.

So GSP finally did it -- he had a fight I liked better than seeing him KO'd by Matt Serra (and yes, I know it was luck of the draw that he won that belt in 2007, and I knew he was never gonna defend it).

Anyone watch the fights? What about that co-headliner? That also was awesome.

Watched all of the ppv and have the FX prelims recorded to watch another time. (also I don't watch TUF)

The Garza fight was entertaining and I think everyone I was watching with pretty much zoned out for the next two. Hendricks dropped a hell of a bomb on Kampmann...was entertaining albeit quick.

The main event was most definitely entertaining. Thought Condit was gonna take it after that kick. He looked pretty good though even though he spent a ton of time on his back. Looking forward to seeing them both fight again.

On that note, you think the GSP/Silva fight will happen?

I was happy with most of the card, tbh.

Honestly, I don't know if I want to see GSP/Silva or Jones/Silva more.

dont think it'll happen lol, weight classes are there for a reason..

unless either one of them wants to lose/gain 10-15lbs to be in the same weight class, itll never happen.

i think the spider > gsp anyday tho

That not wanting to do x thing is a red herring as any fight between the two would be a catch weight fight and both Silva and GSP have said in the past that they want to fight.

And Silva's had problems with wrestlers that can't finish fights, what's he going to do against one that can?

EDIT:  The real road block to this being the next fight for either of these two is Nick Diaz.  Assuming he can stay clean, that is.

Dana White said the Silva GSP fight, if it happens, will happen in May. I read that somewhere today. White and Silva want it, sooner or later money will talk.

Yeah the Garza fight was good. I was impressed by him. First time I saw him fight.

But I gotta say, the only way GSP wins fights is by decision. He's dominant the whole while he fights, but he can't finish people. Koscheck? Broken orbital in the second, goes to the judges. Dan Hardy, goes to the judges. Come on. Silva finishes every fight unless he hides behind the ref in mockery of his opponent, that is.
