Cooler Master Quickfire Rapid vs Razer Lycosa

So, I recommended a Cooler Master Quickfire Rapid to a person on a Brazilian forum and he previously had a Razer Lycosa, which wasn't working anymore. The painting was completely gone and most of the keys didn't even work. The media touchpanel was also not working.



Which means, this keyboard couldn't be given for RMA, and best of all, there's no Razer Warranty in Brazil. It also couldn't be sold since it didn't even work anymore.

He was using a Microsoft keyboard for the last few months, which in his opinion was far better than the Lycosa (and cheaper).

But due to my thread on a certain forum (http://adrenaline.uol.com.br/forum/hardwares-em-geral/416788-guia-do-teclado-mecanico-pergunte-aqui.html), he bought a Quickfire Rapid since it was one of the few keyboards in our ISO ABNT2 (Brazilian Portuguese) layout and I recommended it to him.

When he received it, he was astonished by its quality and how well it was built, and we half-joking told him that he'd be able to break the Lycosa in half if he used the Quickfire Rapid to beat it.

Well, well, here's the result:

Some of the keys may have fallen off the Quickfire Rapid, but the stabilizers didn't suffer any damage and they've been reattached successfully with no damage at all.


It seems Round 2 comes tomorrow...  lol

Result:

- The Razer Lycosa has been broken in half.
- A wood support underneath it has been broken in half as well
- The CM Quickfire Rapid is working 100% with no damage at all.

It's hard, but that's the way things are. The cheapest quality keyboard you can get is the Noppoo Choc for US$ 100 with the shipping on eBay. The Quickfire Rapid with Cherry MX Black costs US$ 140 here in Brazil and all the others cost around US$ 200~300.

But well, Cooler Master is going to be releasing their Quickfire Pro and Trigger officially here with ISO-ABNT2 layout next month. Supposedly, the Trigger is going to cost around US$ 200, which is quite cheap over here compared to other keyboards (such as the Meka G1, which costs US$ 275).

Not really, Performance-PCs sell them with Cherry MX Brown and US (ANSI) layout for US$ 170 with the shipping for Brazil.

Now, just think, is it really that bad to pay US$ 200 for a keyboard with our ISO-ABNT2 layout, 1 year warranty and local support, instead of paying US$ 170 for a keyboard without local warranty and risking yourself paying additional taxes?

I can't see what's bad in that, Mechanical Keyboards are quite expensive for us, I myself paid US$ 160 on my Das Keyboard Professional Silent, importing it from Hong Kong. And believe or not, compared to how keyboards are priced in here (US$ 300 for a bloody Razer Blackwidow Ultimate), that's cheap!

A QFR is 67 bucks right now on Amazon, with some discount coupons pushing them to 55 sometimes. Add 30 for the shipping, and you have half this price.

I know warranty is important, but I don't think doubling the price is worth it.

I think I'll stick with buying from GH members for now.

Well, I can't bring myself to find the price of the Quickfire Rapid all that cheap, but it's certainly the cheapest in here! The Thermaltake Meka (with that retarded layout) costs US$ 200! And US$ 76 in the United States...

Lol I would never use any of my mechanical keyboards to beat another membrane dome keyboard. First of all, wouldn't want to risk it breaking the internal components, and second, membrane KBs aren't worthy enough to be beaten with a mechanical KB.

Yeah I heard Lycosa has a lot of issues, though oddly enough people say Arctosa is ok.  But for the price it's better off paying a bit more and get mechanical keyboards.

$250 is more the exception for particularly special, rare and no longer produced key caps though.

The less common CCs tend to sell for $100 to $150 (each!), and apart from girldc caps (well, keyboard jewellry really) most are quite reasonably priced.
